Re: what things needed for hajj
If you are traveling from US, do you need a hi-lo watt converter for cell phone charger ?
Yes
Yes
[/quote]
Unless you have one of the smart phones. Their chargers are good for both 120 and 240 volts.you just need to buy a flat pin to round pins adapter. From Amazon, you can buy a set of three for 4 dollars oeur so
Also I strongly recommend that you carry some sanitizing wipes and definitely carry a thin roll of toilet paper with you. All the toilets in Mecca and Madina have Muslim hand shower, and more than one time, you will find one with broken faucet or no water. If you don't realize it before taking care of your business, then you can be in some deep ???? (fill in the word), literally :D
Re: what things needed for hajj
you might need to pack stuff separately.
One small suitcase that you can easily carry during travelling from your country:
For women, an abaya work from your home and two extra should suffice. I got some short sleeved lawn shirts since it gets really hot with abaya and all (plus lawn shirts get dry quickly when washed) + 3 pairs of pants with pockets that could be securely zipped to keep the passport and cards/money with me safe rather than leaving in the rooms and few hijabs. Rest you can figure out what is important.
Another small bag to be taken to Mina/Arafat with a change of clothes+shoes, some literature on duas,a pocket quran, alcohol and perfume free toiletries+flushable wipes,a small towel, a small foldable pair of scissors for halaqa, painkillers (we used to need a ‘soota wali puri’ (a combination of tablets) every night from day of arafah owards due to longggg walks all day for rami , saee and back from haram), phone charger+battery bank(although they have places to charge phone in Mina camps),and any other thing you feel important to be used during your 4/5 days stay in Mina (you can come back to your room for a shower and change on 10th zilhajj so you can manage stuff accordingly). You will be leaving this one in Mina on the day of Arafah so please dont leave anything you would regret losing in this one (our group lost many valuables while we were away ; my bil got his money belt stolen in Mina and had huge inconvenience .. yeah shaitan har jaga hota hai) and take a smaller one along:
A small drawstring bag to be kept in above one with a small mat+a thin single bedsheet for overnight stay in muzdalfa (we used and left ours after using it there),some energy bars,a small pouch for collected stones for rami.
I took 2 such bags along, one for arafah/muzdalfa and one used in the Haram to keep shoes along because we might enter one gate and get our the other after saee/tawaf so better to keep shoes with you.
I guess thats it ?
ALSO please dont get carried away with all the buffet meals in Mina. Some dates, juices and very very light food (NO HUMMUS,filafel or matar pilaf please) during those days because you dont want to end up standing in long queue at the washrooms that are not too clean to keep your clothes paak no matter how much you are careful using them, esp on the day of Arafah when you have to stay at muzdalfa overnight with VERY less washrooms.
tmi but I strongly suggest keeping a nappy rash cream in your mina bag, I knew MANY people esp. men needing it badly ![]()
You will find no bed uncomfortable to sleep and no washrooms dirty and no walking miles and miles with aching and blistered feet after this trip:D
Re: what things needed for hajj
Oh and please remember us in your prayers :)
Proto had an excellent point about the rash cream. Guys, because they are wearing nothing under their lower ihraam, have their thighs continuously rubbed against each other because of on going walking. Though luckily it did not give me a rash, but getting a rash is very common amongst guys.
Re: what things needed for hajj
One thing which is extremely important and you need it throughout the hajj is, patience
Yes, lots and lots of it.
Re: what things needed for hajj
You can carry vaseline, then you won't need the rash cream.
Yes same thing. In fact, Vaseline jar is what I was carrying
Re: what things needed for hajj
I have compiled the following list after reading from various sites/blogs.
extra ihram clothes slippers (men) Shoes (women) hat sun glasses socks multiple pairs pocket prayer mat pocket quran tasbeeh or counter towels sheet or sleeping bag cell phone small bag (cross body) Hajj belt (men) ziploc bags to put dirty clothes in drinking bottle plug converter for phone chargers (for US) energy/protein bars list of dua pencil and small notepad (keep important numbers in the notebook) plastic bag/sick bag separate slippers for bathroom
medicine tylenol, vaseline, ricola cough drops, vitamin C tabs or packet, band aid, pepto bismal ???
toiletries non scented soap, shampoo, deodrant, sunscreen, cream, toothpaste, tooth brush, disposable razor, nail cutter tissue box, miswaak, unscented hand sanitizer
almost everything included I will add few more from my experience.
plz keep extra clothing including abaya clothes get dirty n you don't have time to wash laundaries are expensive.
keep torch it will help you collecting pebbles at night in mazdalfa.
big handcarry water bottle will help you doing wadu in mazdalfa
keep nuts n dry stuff for you to eat in mina, mazdalfa so tht less washroom use n keep you full.
do keep hangers especially in mina washrooms are so small changing clothes you don't have space in washroom so hangers help in hanging clothes in washroom.
I made small cloth pouch to keep pebbles in it.
Re: what things needed for hajj
make two bags one for whole trip one small bag pack for mina and one smallest bag for a day in Arafat and night in muzdalfa
Re: what things needed for hajj
and yes comfortable walking joggers wth socks or whtever because on main hajj day all transport get closed n from haram paak you have to walk on your foot till mina, I had my skechers wth me but still I got blisters after tawaf e zairat, so keep your medi bandages and special socks to wear during tawaf.
Re: what things needed for hajj
Few more tips:
-For women during tawaf, try to hang your drawstring bad infront of you instead of back, and make your mehram men be behind you. In crowded spots esp near the black stone, there will be LOTS of pushing and there are perverts in there that might pinch women in places
so you might need your husbands/brothers with you to embrace you from back and pushing away any men with elbows to make hour way. A guppan warned me about this and I am so thankful she told me it.
While in Mina, on reaching, try to get a place in camp hall in the middle of the hall. If near the door, there will be constant disturbance of people in the door asking to call their family inside since women and men have separate halls..and if at the other end, it will be near the washroom. I had to put a note requesting to use the washroom inside the camp for wudu only and for the disabled elderly ladies since there came a time by the end of first day it was impossible sit inside the camp after few hours right on day one ![]()
For Halaqa (cutting of hair on day 10) , we had 4 ladies in the came who had to do the kaffarah because they got their hair cut by husbands before their husbands had shaved their heads. Halaqa is to be done by a person whose halaqa has been done. I am sure your muallim will tell you but just in case someone misses this.
For Rami, do not rush since it can be done all day. Try wearing secure closed shoes to avoid injury due to stepping. Aim for stoning from the right of the Jamaraat because most of the people stay on the left side since that it where they enter and not much people go on the other side. Keep the stones in 3 separate pouches from muzdalfa (8 in each pouch i.e. 1-2 additional in case you drop a stone before throwing in the rush) and take out each pouch on your way to each pillar. If with your group, make a human train with men on the front and women behind them , learn the dua of stoning prehand so you dont have to open your dua book there, get it done one by one and NEVER try to lean on ANYTHING dropped, embed your heads in the back of the person next to you while leaving the place since people stoning from the back might end up injuring your eyes with stones.
-SAVE YOURSELF FROM BEING HIT WITH A WHEEL CHAIR ALL THE TIME. I am always so cautious about it since I need my feet&legs healthy for walking during the rituals
and any wheel chair that would hit you will injure your calf tendon bad and can get you in trouble. It is mostly playful saudi boys that have the wheelchairs and are racing with each other all the time. I got hit by it while on my way back from tawaf e ziyarah
and bled so bad so this is what I would always warn other about.
Re: what things needed for hajj
lol yes..right from the moment you step on the airport, you need that
the saudis at counters there are mostly busy doing nothing :halo: and it took us 7 hours at the airport first and then 9 hours in the bus from airport to makkah for a one hour journey because first the bus driver had forgotten a passport with airport official and took the bus back and then the muallim there was not traceable without whom we couldnot enter makkah so he kept roaming on highways all that time. Ihraam may banda na kuch keh sakta hai na kuch aur ![]()
Re: what things needed for hajj
