What the Arabs can learn from the Latin Americans

Big fan of this guy. Brilliant article focusing on democracy and its evolution.

Re: What the Arabs can learn from the Latin Americans

Arabs, Learn same line doesn't work that way... they know everything, there is nothing anyone or anything in this planet which they need to learn from or learn of..

Re: What the Arabs can learn from the Latin Americans

The muslims world is exactly that muslim how will you expect people whose deen is islam to accept secularism i.e democratic capitalism?

it contradicts many of their core beliefs i.e alcohol, adultry, gambling, interet(riba) to name a few are all forbidden in islam yet under democratic capitalism these are seen as something good and embraced.

Re: What the Arabs can learn from the Latin Americans

^ that makes good reading but not true. All muslim countries already have alcohol, adultry, interest & usury, gambling & prostitution aplenty and a few more deadly sins. So called muslim countries have managed to absorb the worst underside vices of freedom and avoided the better soul-liberating virtues of it

Re: What the Arabs can learn from the Latin Americans

all the muslim countries do not implement islamic laws that is the whole point they implement secular system in various forms be it monarchy in saudi or french republican system in iran.

small example but shows clear contradiction: in islam there is no such thing as king, queen or royalty so what is the saudi royal family about????

Re: What the Arabs can learn from the Latin Americans

We need a true democratic culture where ijtehad is practiced. If the abbassids could do it, then sure can today's muslims if they want to make something of themselves.

A person may be good aur bad and same applies to society.but we r talking about a system which forbids evil and enjoins good deeds.if society collectively fails to respect and implement the system then society is responsible and at fault not the system.in especially western countries they allow women to bare their skin but doesn’t allow to cover the face i.e.hijab.while they ban hijab as violation of human right.they dont ban celebacy.

Re: What the Arabs can learn from the Latin Americans

@ninja_hattori -hijab where banned is because of security concerns and NOT as violation of h.r. You have to be able to identify the person and in these days of suicide bombings, who knows what can be hidden inside?

@javedmiandad & ninja hattori - so what? Democratic systems also call for free and fair elections; how many countries have violated that! so will you stop blaming democracy for their ills?

any system can be abused - whether khilafat or monarchy or democracy. Only democracy has proven it works in current times atleast in some countries whereas all other systems clearly favor a small number of autocrats whether you call them caliph or king or dictator

Re: What the Arabs can learn from the Latin Americans

They can learn spanish and portugese from them and may be football too.

Re: What the Arabs can learn from the Latin Americans

your argument is weak because even in democracy you don't have 10 leaders you have 1, in US the president is commander in chief the leader call him what you want, he has the final say.

in caliphate they have walis who have powers for their provinces independent of the caliph so your assumption of it being autocratic is based on what? who knows.

democracy is not best system and it does not work majority of the time you only have to look here in pakistan for its failure.

Re: What the Arabs can learn from the Latin Americans

gooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal

Ok, enough of futball.

Re: What the Arabs can learn from the Latin Americans

Exceptions are not examples. Is Taliban a good advocate for Islam. Thinking before posting helps.

Re: What the Arabs can learn from the Latin Americans

Saddam Uncle`s Missing Link Born On GS :D

Re: What the Arabs can learn from the Latin Americans

Islam does not fit into democracy man made secular laws, its that simple.

Muslims want islamic system not fake system like hypocrisy democracy.

Re: What the Arabs can learn from the Latin Americans

that coming from a guy living in a land where people pray to stones and monkeys is ironic!

Re: What the Arabs can learn from the Latin Americans

There are different pretexts of banning hijab, some say its 'security' and some say its 'cultural' ;)

Re: What the Arabs can learn from the Latin Americans

so "Taliban" is the only Islamic alternative to 'democracy'?

Re: What the Arabs can learn from the Latin Americans

Obama does not have final say. There is constitution and judiciary. The 'executive' is only one of the 3 branches. All you have to do is pick up a reasonable newspaper to see Obama or any one person does not control a democracy.

If you want to argue a caliph is not an autocrat that is like saying fire is not hot.

Re: What the Arabs can learn from the Latin Americans

what's wrong if somebody pray to stones & monkeys? Let them do whatever gives them peace of mind. Does anyone object to you praying to the Khaba stone?

Some cultures pray to nature, some to their idea of God, some to their teachers!

Re: What the Arabs can learn from the Latin Americans

Arabs and learning?? Sounds like an oxymoron.
