so i have been living in US for past 12 years. got married here and have a 2 yr old daughter. now my whole family has moved back to pakistan and have a good business there masha-Allah. me and my husband want to move back too as my dad will help us to start a business there too.. but i am a little afraid to go there now… first security issues, then electricity and all the things that are happening in pak
me and my husband both work here but unable to save anything here and plus we dont have social circle here…
i dont know if it will be a good move or not… what do you guys think?
You are here from 12 years and you dont have a social circle? Where you at? alaska?
Key question is WHERE in Pakistan do you want to move. Seems like you have made yourself too comfy here to move back. I dont see enough motivation in your post required to move back.
Depends in which city you settle in Pakistan and the type of business you do. I suggest you try to move somewhere in U.S. and do business there. You WON'T find commitments and law in Pakistan.

Unless you have a problem living in USA, you should never even think of moving back to Pakistan.
I know a member on GS who messages me regularly, she has been deported from USA and is in Lahore nowadays. She feels horrible, her parents have confined her to her room and she can't go anywhere.
Im being told not to come for even a visit and you want to move back there?!
same here
i think you should really think about the pro's and con's of moving back because right now living there is not the best thing esp if you have lived in the US for 12 years there is a big difference in just about everything
Thank you all for your replies.... actually my brothers are doing a very good business there so looking at them we are gonna have the same business .. my brothers were here and lived here for 12 yrs too and they have moved back there and are living a good life....
i know things are different there but living here now there is just too much struggle and we end up with nothing here even though we both work... i will be moving close to lahore..

we did have a circle here before but most of our friends have moved to different countries and cities... so we are kinda all alone here now
Remember, a Retail business works best in Pakistan since there is no law on recovery of credit. Court cases take 10+ years to settle and the one who gives bribe wins. I know someone who settled back from America, started computer hardware sales in Islamabad and people took his 2 crores. No recovery. It happened 10 yeas back when Dollar was around fifty five rupees.
If you have experience of top end Bakery or Restaurant, it will pay you well in Pakistan. Invest in morning and get return with 150~200% profit before going home. No bank pays you that much!
DO NOT enter into any business where you have to give goods on credit in Pakistan.
In U.S. if someone delays payment, a simple notice through lawyer solves the problem. Not here.
The law and order situation in an around Lahore is not that bad as it is in Karachi and surrounding cities. If you have money , you got connection , you live in Lahore , nothing good like it. Go for it.
if u hav the money n resources thn i guess living in Pak is second to none, feel free to do anything kinda business , law is jst by name n the r pros n cons.
my husband thinks he will be jusssttt fine in pak.. because he has lived there as a boy untill he was 13 years old... yet he has been living here for over 16 years and only went back last year once.... i dont know how to make him understand :-( ... we are gonna be leaving everything from here to move over there
my suggestions would be not to move. We did the same thing we moved to india (my hubby's country), his parents didn't want to move to the coutry we were in even though both brothers were there. I think it was not worth it, but if you feel so strong about it, might as well give it a try and see how it works out. If you hvae US citizenship, then you can alsways come back. Thats what we are thinking, since we have the citizenship f the coutry we moved from we can alsways go back it may take us a bit to get bqack in job market etc but will not be at our ropes' end.
The corruption is the main factor we want to move back, from business to visa to school to everyday life it is a struggle. Yes you are not saving much in US still there is a social structure in place, esp if there is any natural disater or other emergencies. Everyday life is not a struggle in north america.
Good luck..
Everybody told us not t move but we had to experience it ourselves
I can put up with the traffic, mosquitos, electricity issues, corruption, etc… but the law and order situation is one thing I can’t compromise on… my father has been robbed twice on gunpoint, our house was robbed once, my in-laws had their car snatched three times … its just horrible… don’t know about Lahore, Karachi is just in the pits (and I love that city like anything) I wouldn’t move back unless it was absolutely necessary.
Why not take an extended vacation, like 6 months and check it out… if you still like it, then move. Are you guys U.S. citizens?
The red bold words are the key. Your 90% solutions are in that word.
So give it a try, but don't burn your ships before moving. Leave some money in America, which must be enough for you to move back. Depends on your living style, that amount should be 15-25k .. in my books.
