What religion would you be if you weren’t a Muslim?

Supposing Islam had not reached you which religion would you be? Basically which is your second best religion?

Me, I probably would have been a Christian (Jehovah’s Witness) or a Jew, of course it’s not perfect but still better than other religions which, make me feel ‘claustrophobic’ and ‘odd’ actually some ‘Islamic’ sects do too…

What a question…

Do you mean before Islam came or if we had a choice?

If before Islam came, I would probably be a Hindu, as I am a Mahajir and my parents are from India and chances are my ancestors were Hindus…From my mother’s side however, I would be a Jew, as her ancestors were Jews…

If I had a choice and there was no Islam, I would choose to be either a Daoist or a Buddhist…

But Alhumdulillah, Islam is here and I am a Muslim…:jhanda:

Cool… yeah there’s nothing like Islam…

People say we are descendants of the Prophet Joseph, if that’s true I ‘d probably be a Jew too… (it does explain my georgeous looks)

But I don’t like the idea of blindly following ones forefathers’ just for the sake of it so I probably would have chose to be a Jehovah’s Witness.

Taoism hmmm, don’t really know much about it except that it’s oriental…

Buddhism, always found it quite dry, I like the idea of the middle path though...

It does looks a bit alien and a complete other unlike the Abrahamic religions...

i wud have been a jew.. hmm.

Allah knows best......

shukar karain Allah nay hum ko ye naimat dee.......

why not ask-
what this world would be if there were no religions?

No guidelines, no rules, no incentives for positive behaviour, no fear of one's actions because of the lack of accountability for your deeds, anything and everything goes... i wouldn't want to live in such a world.

Dude, do you know about Jehovah's Witnesses? They're nutty. I don't mean just the knocking on your door (I've got a group that regularly comes to my house, I just make tea and politely engage them ;)).. They're more of a cult. They thought the world was going to end a dozen times for one. I dunno.. I'm not gonna bash them, but study up before saying such things. (Yeah, yeah, I know it's just hypothetical and I'm sure you're a good Muslim, but still, watch out.)

Hindu !

Yes i agree with this.

Alhamdulilah i am proud and thankful i am a muslim. If islam had not reached me or in this hypothetical idea, then i would have been no religion.

Reason being i would have asked too many questions and the religions today would not have answered all my question in satisfactory way. Also without islam i would have been a crook or one of them do anything for money capitalist :)

i would probably b hindu bcoz my ancestors were from raja dahir's family
but thanks to God i m muslim .i wish i can bcom a true muslim

whatever i were... i would have married a muslim man and converted!!

No wars over Religion and no divisions because of Religion. To equate morals to religion is wrong, there are plenty who don't follow a religion that act kinder and are more trusting and giving than those who follow a religion. I respect those who lead a moral life not based on fear of a god or a reward in an afterlife but because that's the person who they are. Some people need Religion as a guideline to remind them how they 'should' act which is fine, but there are those who do not. Not following a Religion does not mean a person is going to act like a barbarian, that is what makes us different from animals.

Deen e Ibrahimee or Deen Haneef.

If I weren't muslim, hmm.... probably I'd stay away from all religions and create my own set of beliefs having guidelines and way of life. Humanitarian I suppose.

**This is the best answer. May Allah bless you. ** :flower2:

Nadia, i expected you to talk like a ten year old. you lived up to it.

Wot is no guidelines and no rules?
just use that lil' grey cell lying ideal in ya head, you dont need to follow guidelines and rules set by another human being....just use your discretion and your judgement. God has given us brain, not guidelines.
There is nothing like absolute truth.

No incentive for positive behaviour????!!

Wot kind of daydreaming is this? Is your positive behaviour linked to imaginary places in paradise?? thats not good behaviour, sweets, **thats hypocracy. **Or a juvenile pattern of behaviour,ie. to be bribed into doing things.
Just look around, there are ppl doing service to others out of humanity...not on false promises of incentives after death...

wot is, no fear of one's actions because of the lack of accountability for your deeds??!!

Why should one fear anyone?
every one is accountable for one's own deed. You can never make everyone happy, So your every deed is subjective...Who would you trust to judge it? yourself!!
Like i am responsible for my deed... thats accountability!!

There have been wars, enchainment, swallowing up of people for non-religious reasons.

Yes religion might be one more reason for war, it might also be one more reason for peace. Religion might divide people into sects, it can also unite them as brothers.

I suppose you argue likewise for the criminal justice system? You might see someone wanting to murder someone else but being deterred by the thought of jailtime as "hypocracy". i view it as deterrance. order. stability.

how many moral athiests argue for a complete elimination of criminal/social law? can we all use the little grain of gray matter inside each of our heads and be accountable for our own selves?

Give me a break.
