We are not competing on the basis of how odd it was. Honestly I would have given anything at my young age to get that job.
So far you get the cake for having the oddest job.
I was a waitress at a local restaurant, but got fired since the owner thought i was way too flirtatious with customers whether they were male, female, older folks and giving away free stuff. Yeah whatever, at least I made some good tips.
I have worked at a Texaco Gas station as deli assistant , forecourt assistant and sales assistant .
I have worked at Tesco in night shifts filling the shelves .
I have worked as cleaning stuff for Dunnes stores ( It was a hard time - I was hit by redundancy during Ramadan , just worked there for a month till i got a better job )
I have worked at Indian restaurants but both episodes didnt last more than a week !
O yea i have also worked at Eircom as tech support staff ( and I count that as an odd job )
Worked for airline catering (yes I made airline food trays)
Worked as a pharmacist's assistant
Distributed leaflets, for one day only
Worked/Volunteered as a student contact for my students union
Worked as a sales assistant at JD Sports
Worked as a barista at M&S Cafe
Worked as a sales consultant at Carphone Warehouse
i never worked odd jobs because my transition was smooth and seamless. Allah kaa shukr rahaa.
Khalil bhai, it's not just about transition... it's something that's a part of life for people who're growing up in the West... that's why I don't necessarily consider these "odd" jobs in the literal sense of the word. Even for new immigrants, it provides an adequate means to blend into a new social structure while they explore opportunities in their desired career areas.
For me, between the ages of 16 and 21, I was employed in what may be termed as odd jobs primarily to support my undergrad education... these jobs included:
- telemarketer
- poster/flyer delivery person
- kiosk sales person
- customer service rep
- security guard
I consider them all "odd" jobs because they require no qualifications. I had done all these jobs before I turned 19. The only "real" jobs I've done include tutoring and my 6 month long internship.
I have :
1. Distributed newspapers
2. Distributed telephone directories.
3. Sold Vacuum cleaners door to door.
4. Telemarketed Long Distance Phone Service
5. Worked at a burger joint
6. Telemarketed Auto Insurance
7.Worked at an electronics store
8. Gas station
9. Drug store.
Can anybody beat my record ?
worked as a dj at a lesbian bar
now that is what we called Quality over Quantity :D.
Me ...
1. Parking lot
2. Gas Station
3. Mall Kiosk
