I heard that Shakespear was rude as Momina Duraid.. he also used to steal others stories and got that published in his name without giving credit to others..
so guilt also makes people rude.

We are rude to people who have wronged us in the past (or still doing it) and it’s reached that point where it’s not bearable anymore.
Otherwise, we may be rude because of our own insecurities or difficult circumstances.
While I agree that it is a parent’s job to teach compassion for others, sometimes how the child turns out isn’t in the parents’ control . I’ve seen families where parents bichaaray and half the siblings are naik and shareef, but still there are one or two rotten eggs in the family. In that case, it’s the environment outside the house … perhaps it’s the society like you mentioned about Pakistani gov’t officials.
I agree that technology is definitely playing a part in making us collectively more rude/impatient with each other. Everyone is trying to one up the other.
Also agree that people tend to filter their thoughts better in person. I’ll use an example here to illustrate my point:
Suppose I am new to GS and no one knows my real identity here. I make a “fake” profile (as in, I tell everyone I am so and so when in real life, I might be a completely different person). And so, this way I can be anyone I want. I can be as rude and insufferable as I want and no one can harm me. There are no consequences.
If, on the other hand, at least a few people on GS know me outside of GS. Now, I’ll be 10 times more careful about what I say here because in case I mess up, there is a chance that someone can track me down through facebook (or some other social networking site) and report me to my family.
So, perhaps, sometimes people are rude just for fun because there are no “real” negative consequences.

Sometimes people are rude to you because they really liked you (at one point in time) and made an effort to be friends, but you didn’t reciprocate. So rudeness can be a defense mechanism.

No, dudes. Why does everything have to be about ishq vishq? It can be your boss whom you really tried to impress with your hard work but who doesn’t even know you exist. Or your class fellow (of the same gender) whom you tried to be friends with, but he/she is too arrogant to be seen anywhere with you.

yes I have seen this scene. people turned rude towards their ex organisation (if something happened bad to them during their employment with the organisation)

of course, rudeness can be retaliatory…there are 101 other reasons but the common reason seems to be ‘lack of respect’ to the other person. if someone really respects [and, one should!] the other person, he/she will never be rude. it’s a matter of civility and good tahzeeb.

Also when someone expects something (say a favor) and you don’t favor that person, he may also turn rude. That means disappointments also make people rude
