M&S and BHs are common brand names and I like their stuff but when it comes to designer labels like Gucci, Ted Baker, CK etc I abhor them and don't wanna label myself with their names.
The real snobs design their own clothes and accessories.

There is a cheap product, there is a good quality product, and then there are expensive brands. One should go for good quality, I will buy one instead of 3 for that. But jumping into the whole battle arena of brands, thats crap. Unless perhaps one has SERIOUS money to piss around, in which case, they should keep their mouth shut at least.
Who call their husbands hubby. Hate this word.

I have an aunty.. she loves brand names (which isn’t bad in itself, even though I don’t like them myself) AND she looks down on people who buy non-branded stuff - that just ANNOYS me.. like wth, whats it to you if I choose not to wear brands 
ALSO, she never ever ever fails to mention the PRICE of anything she is talking about.. for example, her daughter has a baby and she says to my mom, “ohh we all went shopping before visiting the hospital.. not one of us spent less then £200 on the baby stuff” (and then goes into detail about each dress/pyjama bought.. costing a bomb each).. like wth lady, did we ask for your reciept?! One time that really annoyed me was when she said something like “OHHHH we spent all day painting our bench.. you know, some people don’t even have a chair in their garden.. we have a bench” I mean, mubaarak ho, you have a bench, ab chup kar ke bait jao uss par. And she refuses to speak in anything but english to her grandson, even though she can’t speak it.. but apparently, she wants him to learn nothing but english.. sad!
So yeah.. going on and onnnn about themselves/how rich they are/how much £ they spend etc etc.. and the worst thing, looking down on people who can’t or don’t want to do as much.. equals being a SNOB.
Alot of the very high end designer brands speak for themselves (if u label is visible) so there is no need to say “Do u like my handbag, it’s GOOOCHEEE!”. I think if people feel the need to drop names and prices into the conversation to ensure that u know they have spent alot on the items, they r probably insecure.
Now this is a totally new one. Never heard that being snobby, is this in Pakistan u mean?
People like that annoy me. Again I think it’s down to insecurity. This aunty of yours needs to be thrown away in the rubbish bin - a designer one of course, that cost £500 - bcos she’s worth it. BTW - i have a neighbour like this, I wonder if she is the same woman?

-- just came back from lahore and i can honestly say..... there are many snobs .... many many many ..... but if u avoid those and go into the 'local' areas like ichra , smanabad, old city, multan road etc.... you find the real lahori punjabis..... and they are just fantatsic, ... a bit snobbish but more 'wannabe' snobbish, but at the same time knowing they cant achieve those heights so they realise that, and its just funny if not quite endearing....
but yes youre right most 'modern' or eductaed paks are snobs..... why? i think its down to their continual attempt to measure everything by how much money they have / can spend / one upmanship over the next person / family - how well they are educated is not a measure in itself - it is a route to greater riches, visas, family members travelling abroad and bringing those oh so valuable greenbacks back to Pakistan ( no matter the pakistan rupee is devaluing itself into the ground !!!) ..... in a relatively poor society the haves flaunt it over the have nots.....
bring back the good old days of 25 rupees to the £, which i remember ..... at least life was simpler then, we didnt look down ( so much) on our fellow pakistani and we valued what we had, becuase it had some value!!!

i mangle urdu when i try and just revert to my good old homegrown version of brit pak punjabi ( which i must say is pretty good, i have been complimented on it) - you can imagine the horror when i used it incessantly during the last 2 weeks i spent in Pakistan -

This happened a long time ago…just shows you how long this so called snobbery has been going on for:
I was shopping with my Nanni in London. The retailer was a Punjabi man, so my Nanni, to establish rapport, began conversing with him in Punjabi also. Anyway the conversation was flowing… we purchased our items and we were just about to leave the shop, until this woman (must’ve been around my mom’s age) stopped my Nanni and said in Urdu:
“You should be ashamed of yourself, speaking in Punjabi in front of your young impressionable granddaughter…”
I (then a feisty teenager) was getting ready to fire back at her… “don’t you know who my Nanni is bla bla bla”… until we walked away from her, only a couple of yards… and she returned to her own daughter, only to carry on her conversation… IN PUNJABI!!!

This appears to be quite common then, punjabies telling others not to speak punjabi to their own kids. How strange.
IF it was a pathan person seeing a pathan person talk pashto to their kids, they would probably pat them on the back and say “Shabaashe!”. lol

ppl in pakistan consider punjabi a slang language which is very stupid and shameful. I like the way sikh ppl stick to their culture and language. well most of them if not all. Even here I see ppl who are punjabi, I feel glad and want to talk in punjabi but they keep changing the channel to urdu. Its pretty funny some time I talk to fellow punjabis in punjabi and but they keep on replying in urdu. this is just duffer pun

There are some aunties who will even tell others about how much money their children make…and what brand name gift their child gave to someone. I agree with** RupayHalwa** that it boils down to insecurity. Individuals who are confident and at peace with themselves don’t feel the need to harp on and on about money or the material things they have.
