What kind of food will have a hard time getting accepted in Pakistan?

Re: What kind of food will have a hard time getting accepted in Pakistan?

is escargot (snails) even considered halal? I doubt they'd serve anything considered haram there. I think another food people may not indulge in is stuff like idli/vada/dhokla etc.....u have to have a taste for it

I know this girl who is from karachi who likes that kinda stuff. Punjabis are not too familiar with it. I've heard that karachi cuisine has more indian influence. Dunno if it's true.

Red Velvet is she in karachi now? I know several people here, even few punjabis who like that stuff, but I am guessing majority (esp punjabi's) wont take to it very well

Re: What kind of food will have a hard time getting accepted in Pakistan?

She lives in the US, is originally from Karachi, has visited there, and is very familiar with the items you mentioned. They're not very common in Punjabi cuisine. I've tried idli, etc.....not bad at all:)

Re: What kind of food will have a hard time getting accepted in Pakistan?

here people try more things, but not sure how it would fly in pak, as in a restaurant serving up idli and other stuff. Anyways another concept that I doubt would flourish in Pak is "raw movement, rawism...etc" where people are very adamant about not cooking/taining nature's bounty. Everything is consumed raw really...and if anything they use a dehydrator to "dehydrate" some veggies/fruits to give them a chip like appeal or crisp. I know most desis i know cook their food down to a mush like consistency, even rawish veggies in curry dont fly always...imagine completely raw....hmm

not all pakistanis love eating meat...with the exposure to the outside world..now there is much awareness among people to look ahead of pizza, pasta, burger and kfc...i was surprised to c thai restaurant in gulberg lahore...Lemongrass...and it was jam packed at that time...

even people love Nando's being portugese cuisine(may be its spicy and pakistanis love everything if its spicy..yeah i agree with u Mirch...even my hubby says that...) and middle east food is so so popular among them...the real lebanese...even my husband who is a spicy-food lover really likes middle eastern cuisine but the first time i ate i was its just ok..but now even i love it...its not spicy at all but has its own aroma...also mandi..kooozy...mudbi...mudghoot..but yeah chicken only...i can't handle the churbiiiii:-/:-/..(males love it alot...)
i love salmon with cream cheese sandwitch..and i like the ready-made variety of sandwitches sold at the tube stations and nearby grocery shops andstores like BOOTS in London...dubai needs to add that as well...

never had sushi bcz i don't feel its appearance appeals me...

ready-made deli meat wouldn't be liked in pk by majority as its way tooooooo salty...

Skittlez its not all about poori paratha..people love eating cereals there...so many big grocery stores r there and they have a wide variety of cereals though a bit expensive..but its there aur lainay walay laitay hain...chahay cereal k baad wo anda paratha khaayen but khatay zaroor hain:D

i was at a dinner in Defence club, lahore defence and had their black pepper steak...again meat and lil bit spicy and it was good!...nowadays they want something diff from salan roti tubhee to hotels chultay hain...aur meat hai to pakis ko kio na pasand aye! but meidum or rare medium is a no-no..

mamaof3 turkey is available at spinneys, mall of lahore,cantt..

pakola...ohh i love anchovies since the time had them in a salad at TGI friday's///

redvelvet i too love mint chocchip ice-cream from Baskin Robbins...and yeah most of the pakis won't even bother to taste it:-/ ppl in karachi has more indian influence..its very true...i would never go near dhokla and most of them love it...ohh i don't like idli:-///

and yeah sereen snack-soup!

Re: What kind of food will have a hard time getting accepted in Pakistan?

Korean food would be appreciated by most desis as it is quite spicy.

Re: What kind of food will have a hard time getting accepted in Pakistan?

someone said cottage cheese...everyone eats in pakistan.

My khala who lives in North Karachi....really not a posh area at all...eats cottage cheese and its easily available.

I think sashimi would def not take off! I love sushi ( i eat it all the time) but i cant eat sashimi no way!

I dont think jacket potatoes with baked beans and cheddar cheese ( the britishers will understand more methinks) will ever be a usual lunch time snack.
