^ The bakeries in Lahore are very nice. In fact, I think the bakeries in Lahore offer more varieties in sweet AND savory items compared to some bakeries in the US even. And i think the bakeries and supermarkets in Pak also provide deli sandwiches.

Marshmallows- my parents just don't get how amazing they are!
And someone mentioned anchovies- they are just plain gross!!
It's funny, I was in karachi this past summer and I was trying to explain to my grandmother what sushi was and she was like oh, make it for me - yeah right! I made lasagna for them though and it was a success!
What about donuts you guys? I don't see them being a "hit"
Re: What kind of food will have a hard time getting accepted in Pakistan?
I've noticed that many people from the older generation in Pak don't like pizza.....or chocolate. They don't care for pizza hut....cuz it wasn't around when they were younger so they haven't developed a taste for it the cheese and tomato sauce combination.
You know what else is an acquired taste in pakistan......mint chocolate chip ice cream. I LOOOOOVE IT!!!!!!!!! It's my favorite ice cream, but most people there don't care for it. They don't mind vanilla, or strawberry, or mango, or chocolate, or neopolitan, or tutti fruiti.....but most of them won't do mint chocolate chip!

That's because it tastes like toothpaste. Way back in the day when there weren't too many options, there were only one or two brands, and all of them tasted like mint.

I think toothpaste has a stronger taste though. MCC icecream is more pleasant tasting...and creamy...and you get those crunchy bits of chocolate. Mmmmmm! Always thought chocolate and mint made a good match.
Root beer.....that tastes more like cola colored fizzy toothpaste to me.
i reckon pasta would never be accepted, as my older relatives who have come from pak reckon it tastes like rubber
cous cous…i wonder what they would think of that
Pasta hasn’t had a hard time getting accepted at in in my opinion. When I was in Lahore about 10 years ago, we ate at an Italian restaurant where pasta was being served. And Pizza Hut, which is popular in Pak, is now serving pasta dishes.
And, even in the smaller, less developed cities of Pak…people cook Maggi/Ramen instant noodles (which are pasta) and add their desi flavors to it.
Pakistani cuisine has some dishes in which steak is cut into smaller and thinner strips and fried with tomatoes and onions.
But the people are not used to eating huge blocks of steak like the Americans....and it would be even more unappetizing to them to eat it rare or medium rare. They prefer their meat cooked all the way through. Don't blame em. Slightly bloody/raw meat is eeeewwww!
They do serve steak in Pakistan although not rare or bloody cos that is just gross anyway. I have had steak loads of times at Texas Steak House in Pindi and also in Zanzibar, Multan along with other places. Yum

Yep, you are right about that. I ordered mint choc chip at an icecream parlour and got 1 scoop of some weird mint flavour and 1 scoop of chocolate chip. I know they had mint choc chip tho cos I saw it in the freezer. Maybe its called something different in Pakistan?

I loveeeee mint chocolate chip! When I was in pak recently (for the first time!) they introduced me to tutti fruity and I was hooked! What's the flavor equivalent of that here, I can't seem to find it!!
Re: What kind of food will have a hard time getting accepted in Pakistan?
I don't think there is any kind of "normal" food that would not be accepted in Pakistan.
You name it, Pakistan has it and LOVES it, be it Mexican, Italian, Portugese, American, Chinese, Middle Eastern, Indian (obviously), Russian, French... ANYTHING...
Taste being too bland is not really an issue, because one can always adjust according to their preference.
Ice cream called Spumoni would be the equivalent of tutti fruity over here. Check your local grocery store. I’ve seen it many times at the grocery store, but never bought it. Spumoni is an Italian ice-cream that is multi-colored and has nuts and candied fruits just like tutti fruity. I think I’m gonna buy some when I go grocery shopping tomorrow. Tutti fruity is also an Italian creation. Check these links out.
Re: What kind of food will have a hard time getting accepted in Pakistan?
Well it depends alot on your preferences. I never couldve imagined desi ppl digging susi, but if you've been to avari's fujiyama, it's packed all the time.
hell yeah:) There are several places in ISLOO and in lahore too. dunno about karachi though.
Waisay i am loving this new trend of private diners in pakistan. I really like 'Khaas' and Majlis in Isloo.
I once went to a private diner in Lahore where i had a fabulous 7 course meal. It was mediteranian inspired stuff. Had awesome tapas, yum yum. I have their number on me,but i've forgotten their name.
Also try molten cake from Tiramisu( lahore or isloo). yum yum
