btw, since a whale is a mammal, would one need to zabah a whale for it to be zabeeha because technically it is not a “fish” ya know

The issue is one of the common fiqhs in the Arab world (either Shafi or Maliki, I can't remember), according to which meat that the Ahle Kitaab eat is at least halal and at most makrooh (so long as it is not carion or from an animal forbidden to Muslims)
So an Arab who follows that fiqh would, with the purest of intentions, buy beef from any source and sell it at his restaurant marked with a Halal sign. Because, to him, all of the food served at his restaurant is halal (permissible), so a Muslim could eat anything there.

well, whale is no joke... there are two opinions on it.
there is an event that Arab mostly talk about few sahaaba (RA) and that suggests that they ate the meat of whale.. and hence, many Arab also justify whale to be halal.
I, for one, in this case follow the hadeeth where it is recommended to stay away from things that are doubtful.

anwaar thanks, pluys slaughtering whale would be a little tough, i mean to zabah an animal u have to do it quick so it does not feel much pain, and i doubt we have a knife big nuff to zabah a whale quickly.
anyways here is a question soemone told me that shark is not allowed since its a predator, I understand that for land animals..kinda but almost all fish are predators, and even among permissable animals duck, geese, chicken are all predators. what am I missing here

nope, so.. somethign being a predator does not make it haraam.
now, what about birds of prey, eagles, falcons, hawks?and how about animals like lions, tigers?
and where do elephants fit in.

In surah An’aam there are i think eight categories mentioned that are allowed in four legged animals

shukran, and what about birds, aquatic animals, and insects even e.g. locust is allowed but i guess grasshoppers are probably not.
I am justtrying to understand how clear the guidance is in terms of categories. IO am sure that all the species are not listed anywhere niether do they need to be, but if ther eis guidance regarding four legged animals, is there similar one for birds and aquatic life? is a turtle considered a four legged animal?
again, I am not trying to mock anyone at all, just some questions that i never really thought about much

avoid eating stuffs that have mono and dyglycerides in it and doesnt have either U or K written on it(means for kosher)
i also avoid eating french fries from places where i am 100% sure that either its not a vegetable oil or they fry chicken/pork/meat using the same oil…
