Firstly, I am personally saddened by this plane crash, and 150 precious lives lost. This happened less than 2-3 miles from where I lived in the twin cities.
What kind of mindless buffoons are in our cabinet? I am referring in particular to Qamar Zamaan Kaira, and that Rahman Malik. Rahman Malik first started babbling how 5 people were saved, whereas it was pretty evident no rescue operation could even be mounted due to the conditions, the weather, the terrain and our inept rescue departments. Is this interior minister, in charge of such a critical ministry this poorly informed? If I recall this ministry was ready to take charge of our intelligence at one point. What the hell is Rahman Malik’s qualification apart from washing Zardari’s rear? Now Qamar Zaman Kaira is another dodo, who keeps denying the black box was found, whereas they showed a VIDEO of the darn thing. Now I dont know what’s right, but seems like there is absolutely zero coordination. If there’s any conspiracy theories regarding this crash, I blame these two dunces and their statements to give birth to them.
Re: What kind of dumb idiots are running the show?
^ yeah, seems like after finding the blackbox and inspection of data contained in there, they came to know about CAA's mistake and then came in Kaira to deny that blackbox was not found so that they could save someone who might get some part of the responsibility...
and plz dont talk about rehman malik, he is a joker, i love it when he says "there isss no blaak waatar in thaa cantry"
Re: What kind of dumb idiots are running the show?
if there was video of it it would be impossible to deny its been found, and every channel would be playing the video. they may have found it, they were looking for it quite late (last media report was 4 hours ago), and its a bit of a reach to claim foulplay. just wait on it.
its implausible to say they’re trying to cover CAA up. even if they had the black box surely they couldnt have analyzed it so quickly (a PIA director was saying they can analyze the data in a month)… established guilt, then hatched the scheme to keep looking.
i think people who expect that there wont be significant confusion and mixed messages at a time of crisis have the benefit of watching it on tv instead of being in the situation. coordination and communication in emergencies/disaster is not at all easy, its an area where theres a lot of active research and developed countries are still developing in. too much to expect there not to be confusion in a third world country when a plane crashes in bad weather, difficult terrain, probably limited mobile phone coverage etc.
be careful with criticism knowing that you are getting on your high horses based on information received thousands of miles away from a filter. and please resist the urge to jump on everything to grind the usual political axes.
give it some time Spock, don't get cringy from the outset. Malik and Kaira are as pathetic as you can ever imagine but confusion and misinformation in such a kind of crisis are bound to appear in the initial phase, it can and does happen even in the best of the crisis management systems.
Re: What kind of dumb idiots are running the show?
If we give them the benefit of the doubt, because this is clearly our country's biggest aviation disaster and we dont have the resources to deal with such a problem, shouldn't the ministers keep a lid on it? Now everyone in the country is coming up with theories about what must have happened. Now Shahid Masood and other anchors are also questioning what happened, but I don't blame them after what Rahman Malik and Qaira did.
Honestly, I have sympathies with the Zardari setup, even though they are corrupt and inept. Things have been pretty bad for them, they are governing the country in a very critical time, and it's not entirely their fault, but could they be at least a little more sensible about it and show some restraint and patience.
It's really sad and depressing that we, Pakistanis are paying the price for everything, be it victims of terrorism, victims of natural/human disasters, victims of corruption, victims of lack of resources, yet the whole world is looking at us as terrorists, corrupted bunch. We are facing the music, not playing it!
Re: What kind of dumb idiots are running the show?
there is no question that one could question the competence of a lot of people. but you cant act as if miscommunication is an unusual thing in a time of crisis. the 9/11 report found plenty of miscommunication and confusion and chaos. that much is expected. now I havent seen shahid masood’s analysis but if it has been along the lines of conspiracy theories like the one in this thread, that is indefensible. miscommunication and chaos are expected things in an event like this, and in a country with limited human and physical resources like ours. but hatching theories is a deliberative act, far removed from the chaos of the situation, and is in no way justifiable on the basis of confusion in the government while responding to the situation.
there is no understandable malafide intent in Rehman Malik when he says 5 people have survived. what gain does he possibly have? you say they should have been patient… arguably so, perhaps it was balanced by a need to inform the public and give hope based on the information he had. There is no suggestion that he had something to gain from it at all.
I didn’t even bother reading your first para (too long), but as for the bolded part, he gave that stupid statement minutes after the crash was reported… Kaira the doofus was shown denying the black box thingie while the other window on the news channel had a video of the box. I am not questioning their motives buddy, I am questioning their sanity.

itsnot their sanity, its their lack of responsibility that these jackasses carry as their badge of honor. They are too elite to show some sympathy and sensitivity and be careful on what words they chose when they first come in front of the camera after such tragedy.
They like to treat every camera moment as a political stunt where they see a need to lie through their teeth just to make some false claim or promise that makes them look good at that point.

exactly! This is the part that stings the most. We are suffering the most. Yet the world conveniently wags their tongues and fingers at us!
The plane crash really shook me too :( and the media handled it really badly.
Everything seems like a chaotic badly scripted show now!

typical, dodge the main point by talking about length (the post was shorter than the one i was responding to) and selectively respond to a post.
i see no reason to indulge you with rational discussion when your emphasis, as always, is clearly on mindless reactionary one-note rhetoric.
Re: What kind of dumb idiots are running the show?
rehman malik ALWAYS gives atleast one false statement if a crises emerges. he told the media the kidnapped child had been recovered when he hadnt, he told the media a US training facility was shut down on his orders when intruth it had been shifted location on someone elses call.

Just the way you wouldn’t hand weapons to an untrained army, you wouldn’t hand cameras and a press pass to untrained media representatives. However, fact of the matter is that time and time again we are reminded that the latter has been taking place in Pakistan almost constantly.

It is not just media that has failed time and again, and which keeps repeating same mistakes over and over again. In reality this is what happens everywhere in Pakistan, in every department and institution.
Everyone in the world makes mistakes. But the difference between a developed country and an undeveloped country is that people in developed countries learn from their mistakes, and try not to repeat them. While people from underdeveloped countries keep repeating the same mistakes.
Re: What kind of dumb idiots are running the show?
I WAS a passenger on PIA flight PK 356 from Lahore to Islamabad on July 28. It landed in the capital at 9.30am, approximately 20 minutes before the ill-fated Airblue flight 202 crashed into the Margalla Hills under low visibility in hostile weather. While our plane landed safely at Islamabad, I would like to emphasise that like the Airblue flight, our plane was also forced to fly low over the city in extremely poor visibility and after circling over it on a low-flight path, our pilot took an unconventional route towards the landing strip at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport.
This was probably necessitated by the weather, and it is, therefore, unfair to prematurely blame the Airblue pilot for that crash, as ‘experts’ appearing on the electronic media continued to do in the hours following the tragedy.
We would all do well to remember that included amongst the bereaved in this tragedy were the family of the pilot, and that jumping to conclusions before any evidence has even come to light is not only hurtful and insensitive, it serves no productive purpose whatsoever.
