What Islamic Ummah?

Re: What Islamic Ummah?

Free speech = racism? How did you make that connection? And you talk like there is no racism in Pakistan? Sindhi hates Muhajir, Muhajir hate Sindhi, Balochi hates Punjabi. Pakistanis abroad have a sweet spot for the whites and abhor blacks. Pakistan’s restrictions on free speech isn’t fostering awesome race relations.

On the flip side, the first amendment to the US constitution played an important part in the civil rights movement.

This articles below makes note of how States tried to quell the movement using various unconstitutional laws. The US might still have segregation if it weren’t for the first amendment.

The Struggle for Civil Rights and the First Amendment

The other issue you referred to is illegal immigration. We don’t care who comes to this country as long as they follow the legal process. We know it isn’t easy, however, there are people all over the world (including my fellow Pakistanis) who have to follow that same law to come to the country. It’s unfair to the legal immigrants to let people who don’t come here legally be allowed to stay. Illegal immigrants use social services such as hospital and schools. They are usually poor so don’t contribute much to the tax base. They directly affect the most vulnerable part of the US population (poor Americans who rely on social programs).

Again, Pakistan does not have moral high ground when it comes to the issues of immigrants either. Pakistanis want the Afghan refugees to go back to Afghanistan. We want Afghanis born here to return as well.
