acha samajh gayi. shayad culture ki baat nahi. Yeh gana masoor hona chaiye par. Kitna zabardast song hai. Its not even just a bday song. It highlights culture of pyar and sacrifice in our culture. Like the female singer is wishing her friend to have zindagi ka pyar even though she may not find it.
Muqawwee bro we should also do a thread on famous Pakistani literature love stories like Sassi Punnu and Mirza Sahiban. There have been so many versions of Mirza Sahiban and i think next yr Bollywood has one. But the original tale is set in Pakistan. Aur bhi bahut hain. Have you seen Noor Jehan ji’s Mirza Sahiban set in 1947 just before partition? May not have all the glitz and glamour of today but the acting and plot is good. I had a cassette of Pakistani Salgirah songs with some really nice songs from old movies. I'll share some later when I can recall them. It has been a while. The Talaq song and Jangal main Mangal were two of them.
I didn't know the Nahid Akhtar song was a b-day song. I have it on tape and have listened to it often and really like it.

True. Main hamesha sweet 16 rahungi. even now people think i look 16 even tho im in my 20s. That is wat you call desi aging

Hmm..i don’t think in traditional communities there was much cultural celebration to it but celebration of bdays were seen as a middle-upper class thing. My nani doesnt know for sure her bday and she was in a family of 6 kids.
In my family tradition is to remind ourselves of our blessings that we are all here together, to have cake and then my dad sings “baar baar din yeh aaye” to me, we have khas dinner. all my family feeds me little bit of the cake. I get gifts and sweets which i share with people in my class. Also for dinner we have sweets like kaju ki barfi and kheer. The tradition of bday bumps is apparently common amongst college kids. I also get new clothes sometimes. Also, it’s a good time to get duas from your parents.

Birthday Traditions - On a Hindu child’s first birthday, his or her head is shaved while being held by a special fire. Removal of the hair cleanses the child of any evil in past lives, symbolizing a renewal of the soul.
Usually on the day of the birthday, the child will wear very colorful clothing to school and will pass out chocolates to the entire class. The child will also kneel and touch their parents’ feet as a sign of respect. They then all visit a shrine, where they pray and the child is blessed.
In the afternoon there might be a meal that includes a spicy vegetable stew called curry and chutney which is a spicy fruit relish. The dessert is a treat known as “dudh pakh”, which is rice like pudding (they might also stir in pistachios, almonds, raisins, and a spice called cardamon).
