The general rule of thumb - the more affluent you are the greater you energy consumption, the greater your carbon footprint. The US consumes largest energy per capita - probably 8-10X of India. A rich person in India consumes 2x of a middle class person and probably 50X of a poor person. Rather than measure carbon footprint it is easy to estimate annual kwh energy in ur house and diblvide byv# residents. Also average miles driven div by # of residents divided bybmiles per gal to get gallons gasoline consumed per person. Give urself 0 gasoline consumed if using public transport.
water usage annual usage div by # persons.
Plastic bags used per year

Now list where youvwill cutback.
Southie you brought back some very old memories that the New generation will never experience
Ah Yes............Carbon Footprint or more like "Carbon Ink Print"
I remember writing with a shaved straw qalam dipping it in Ink made of ground Charcoal and writing Alphabet on a Wooden Takhti ..:-)
So I gave that up totally and started writing with computers...............does that count?
and so did the news media, far less printed Newspapers in circulation now, we get all our News by dot com print! :-)
But if you are asking if I will give my four wheel vehicle for a bicycle..........not in today's traffic!
Also I loved the Movie....Water World.......I can't wait to dock my boat in the foot hills of Himalayas!
Re: what is your carbon footprint? is it above or below average?
^ good question. Depending on whether source is coal plant nat gas hydroelectric renewables various levels of CO2 equivalent emissions can be computed. For transportation, total gallons consumed can also be converted.
To keep it simple I have laid out energy usage.
It is simple to get stats on energy usage worldwide annually kWh gallons fuel etc.
We know world population. Determine your contribution.
Also if we assume x family units in world calculate consumption of your family unit and compare to Averagey family unit consumptn. This will penalize you if you have large family.

Re: what is your carbon footprint? is it above or below average?
^ i still don't get it :(
Goal was to make us think if we use more than our share of energy. We can look at monthly electricity bill gasoline consumption water consumption. Compare it with the poorest segment who - probably don't have electricity don't use car may not have running water.
Will give us different perspective. We are the ones polluting while the poorest are the ones doing least consumption. So when we see pedestrians and folks taking puublic transport in crowded cities ar view them as heroes. And we don't attach special significance to those who drive monstor vehicles.
