What is with the pants guys wear in Pakistan?

Okay I know this is going to seem weird that I noticed this, but I just did for whatever reason. I’ve been to Pakistan very few times, but the times I went I noticed this everytime.

I hardly noticed any women/girls wear pants when I went, only shalwar kameez, so I couldnt notice it on them.

Why are the pants so high that the guys wear? The jeans and pants? I’ve noticed here in the U.S. usually the womens pants are higher on the waist than men’s pants. In Pakistan I saw the mens pants being high on the waist. I thought it was kind of awkward. Do they make them differently for different parts of the world or do the guys just pull them up from the waist? I was a young teenager the first time I went to Pakistan and I thought it looked more “feminine” back then for whatever reason.

Okay I realize I will be lucky to even get one reply to this thread, but I really wanted to know because I have wondered this for the longest time, eversince I noticed it. I dont mean to offend anyone who wears their pants like that. I mean I think its fine, I just noticed a difference from how they are worn there to how they are worn here. Maybe they are worn here the same way but I dont notice it as I dont pay attention to that here.

I also noticed guys are really into fitted/tightish pants in Pakistan. I dont know why I thought people wore their pants baggy there. I dont mean to be weird, just some thoughts. Thanks.

hahahah... ur not the only one who wonders that :D

hahaha... the "modaran" guys dont wear their pants like that anymore.. but yes u do see a lot of guys wearing those high rised patloons

Here's my theory:

Guys in Pakistan look into the western world, they see only the girls, when they come back, all they remember is the girls and what they were wearing. They start wearing something like that, too, probably in an effort to seem more westernized or "with it". I've laughed so many times upon seeing Fakhir.

Or, you know, whatever.

i have a theory too :

the jeans (and other popular) culture has been adopted from the west, and until recently, the communication gap between pakistan and the west was significant thus pakistani people wore the 80s into the 90s and the 90s in the 00s. for example, the seinfeld-style clothing (pink shirt tucked into a 'regular' tight fit jeans with sneakers) is common in pakistan but outdated in north america. however, now, you might find some "baggy" stuff in pak too. so its just the slow pace of change (you can say, they are still living in the 90s!).

RT, according to your theory, they should be wearing them low enough that it showed their butt cracks. So that tosses your theory out the window. It's probably what rainmaker said, they're following the 80's, tight hitched all the way up jeans which I find rather traumatizing if anything.

that's funny!

During the 8 yrs in pakistan I spent I don't remember what kind of pants people were wearing but it's true they were about a decade behind on their western influences.

80's shows I had gotten so sick of watching I had to endure again ..as 'new' and back then they only had PTV!?

Before I left they got STN and the satellite dishes were everywhere so I imagine much has changed.

One funny thing I do remember is my khala was dressing her kids with really short tight shorts, loafers and dark socks almost up to thier knees! lol

When my mom innocently asked her why their shorts were so small she got so mad!

saray bachay asay panthay !

aww man I miss my little cousins they were so cute... now they're all grown up :(

I think one of the reasons for wearing higher pants (or pants higher) is to cover up the bulge in their tummy. However, it doesnt pay off, since belting the trousers higher up makes other parts of ones anatomy look extremely awkward.
Noone wears them anymore though.

:rotfl:

p.s. agreed with Akif Bhai

its called isshhhtyle of the hero hera lal !
:D

It’s not to hide their bellies or their butts. It’s because they haven’t got a clue. These are the same people who still wear spiky moustaches religiously until they land abroad where they suddenly see the light :ahaa: and scrape off the whiskers within a week

ive wondered that too at times…i guess one lunatic starts the fashion and the rest of the lungoors follow it…

Why is this topic even being discussed? Maybe you were born or raised or both in the west but you people are still desis. Highlighting the flaws in the adopted western ways of people back home does not make you a gora. Insecure ABCDs and FOBs.

haha :D ... I've noticed this too. When I was in Karachi, I met some 'high-class' Pakistani guys with pants that seemed to go all the way up ... high above their belly buttons. It is emphasized even more cause they tuck their shirts in.

I was in Pakistan this year, I didnt see anyone dressing like that..However I’d like to see the Safari Suit make a comeback :smokin:

LOL!

When I was in elementary school in Pakistan, my mom used to dress me up and she used to pull my pants above the waist, not my fault :bummer: And I never liked that. So when I was in middle school, I started wearing shalwar kameez in Pakistan and never wore pants again because my mom would say this is not how “parhey likhey log” wear it if I had them at the waist or a little bit below. All the pants that I used to wear were pretty loose, not tight at all.

So when I came to US, I used to wear dress pants and dress shirts at first (because I started wearing pant shirt after a very long time). Then I tried khakis and liked those baggy (not too baggy) khakis and started wearing those. I still didn’t like jeans because most of the times they are tight unless they are REALLY REALLY baggy. This year I bought the first pair of jeans by Tommy because it’s loose and it’s not really baggy and gheto. I had wore jeans before but they would only last two or three times, but these by Tommy Hilfiger, I like them

How od these guys breathe in such tight pants??? What makes it worse is that most of them are very slim and then they were these starched stiff cotton shirts on top all tucked in with a leather belt and big metal buckle. The contrast between the upper and lower half makes them look more absurd. Even t-shirtsare tucked in! We really need to start airing 'Queer Eye for The Straight Guy' in Pakistan.

For the complainers :: I bet each n everyone of you does something stupid when you wear ur clothes. So stop complaining.

Now for Munni :: I think they want to hide their big bellies. If its inside the pants it wont be that visible. So the higher the pant is the smaller the bulge.

They do it on purpose. It’s a showcase for the ‘family jewels’.

:ewwwwwwwwwwww:

Disgusting!

WUD you are in Pakistan too right??? Hence the defensive aproach!
