This has always baffled me. Aunties would ask me if I knew of a nice match for such’n’such a fellow, and when I came up with someone, they’d ask, “Voh kaisi hai?” And I’d say, " She’s very pleasant and intelligent. B.A. kiya hai. Teacher hai."
“Lekin voh kaisi hai?”
“Voh bahut achha khana pakaati hai.”
“Haan, lekin voh kaisi hai??”
“Kahaani bahut achhi tarah sunaati hai – bahut mazahi larki hai. Hamesha hans-mukh. Such hi bolti hai…”
“Voh* kaisi* hai?? Rang!! Rang kaisa hai??” they would burst out, exasperated with my inability to know the code. They weren’t interested in her nature, only in her colour.
“Rang? Aap jaisi saanvali, I guess.” This would draw an insulted “harumph”, since apparently the aunties did not consider themselves “saanvali”, but rather, “fair”.
All these threads on this forum about what noxious cream or chemical to slather on one’s face or arms or feet to lighten them. It’s as pitiful as caucasian people courting skin cancer by toasting themselves at tanning booths or on the beach. Why can’t people simply be happy with how they are?
If you believe in God, did not God make you perfect?
I don't get it either. I also wonder when does wheatish end and when does dark begin? And is wheatish already considered dark by some? Do those aunties possess a chart which tells them. Do they keep it in their pockets and check out the girls according to it at every fucntion???
hold on there namaan, let me get you some water. you better stay away from mulatn boy.
what about those light skinned pathanies? you no longer like them?

No, they've got it in their genes. I didn't get that set of DNA, and saanvali wasn't a colour in my box of Crayolas.
I understand we all have different preferences but this light skin obsession is very backward and paindu-ish. It also proves that being educated can only do so much for man.
Its British implanted inferiorty complex, they did that to exercise control over swarthy/black peoples it was a form of slavery. Just like in front of 5 star hotels the the door man wears a traditional Mughal dress, this is what our culture has become a door man now wears what mughal kings wore centuries ago. Sadly it continues to dominate the culture today. It also is a failure of our school system to teach our children and generation that being black isn't bad nor is it a taboo. Many people forget that the whole Indian empire was of swarthy color and the white people that exist in the Subcontinent of India are outsider thus aren't truly desi. We should be proud that our swarthy color that makes us part of a legendary Indian Civilization that existed and continues to exist! Weather Pakistani or Indian we are a proud people. But some people wont appreciate because they take in too much disposable media which clutters their brains with shiny white things.
