What is the significance?

What makes each human being significant in this huge world? As a single unit as well as part of a bigger plan?

Re: What is the significance?

Well how long is a peice of string? The answer to this question has so many layers religious, social, economical etc. We are all cogs in a system and when 1 cog refuses to turn the system begins to run inefficiently and ends up breaking down.
Example: I'm a person, I live in the UK. I rely on the bin men to keep my streets clean hence protecting me from the diseases that vermin can spread. I rely on the police to keep me safe from danger, I rely on medical staff to treat my illness, I rely on farmers to grow food so I can eat, I rely on truck drivers to deliver the food to my local shop, as you can see the list can go on forever. What do I do? I work my job so I can pay tax that is used to pay the police, the binmen, the medical staff, the proffessors that taught them, etc etc. Thats a very brief example of how I as a unit am a part of a bigger plan economically.

Another example: I'm a muslim women, I wear hijab, a non muslim can tell I'm a muslim just looking at me. I pray 5 times, recite Qu'ran daily, do charity, zakat and strive every day to be a better person. I could meet a non muslim and become good friends with them, never judge them, offer them emotional support if they need it and become a good person in there eyes. They might one day think, that sara is a really nice, genuine person, she is passionate about her religion and it seems to have made her a happy fulfilled person, maybe I should look into reading about Islam maybe it could make me a happy too.

I know my examples are a little lame but it's a really deep question your asking and I think it could be debated untill the end of time.

Re: What is the significance?

Thank you for your response. yes i know its a very deep concept but i am not looking into debating the issue just simple views of how does everyone think of this point. Yes you have told me what makes you feel significant as a human being, I actually really like the first example you have chosen.
It's just that I feel we are extremely insignificant as individuals - a tiny, very tiny, spot in this extremely huge universe. One out of 6,893,100,000 people in this world. I want to know how people deal with this fact which makes you feel very... small. Either we should accept this and be humble or not?

Re: What is the significance?

We are not significant really...

Re: What is the significance?

^ acceptance is good. And how do you deal with that...?

Re: What is the significance?

i don’t know what you mean by dealing with it…:bummer:

if you are aware of how insignificant you are, you are likely to be more humble and value things you have in this short time on this earth you have…

Re: What is the significance?

I look at it this way...

In the world around me I am fascinated by the smaller almost insignificant things. Take ants for example or bees.

Do you have any Idea how important honey bees are to humans or how powerfull ants are in the Jungle?

Same sort of thing for humans... Each Human has it's purpose and we must do our best to fullfill it.

Re: What is the significance?

I agree with Faris bhai : )

Every human being serves a purpose, some are leading or following an evil purpose, some are leading or following a good purpose. In my opinion, good and evil, truth and falsehood, brightness and darkness, are two parallels in the world. One has to decide which side he is on and work for it. However, sometimes the perception gets so convoluted or polluted that one can't tell the difference between good and evil.

Re: What is the significance?

Purpose! Yes that's the word. Purpose, our value, our worth makes us feel significant. At least that's how I feel as well. We should be humble but to have a greater purpose is very important.
Now, this purpose should be on a grander scale or like you mentioned a purpose can be to give honey to humans...?

Re: What is the significance?

Well only Allah can be the ultimate judge of Purpose.

But i'm in love with the way animals and humans have some simmilarities. I remember learning how humans and ants despite being very different both have simmilar systems both are builders and destroyers.

I love the way i can sum up human cities like ants nests where each ant serves it's duty.

Re: What is the significance?

Besides making us feel significant, a purpose gives motivation and definition to our life, it makes life worth living.
It can be small scale, for instance, making people laugh (being funny), raising wonderful kids, giving love to family and friends, or it can be grand scale like the work of Mother Teresa, Abdul Sattar Edhi, Einstein, Maulana Rumi, etc.

When the good stop existing, this world will see its doom's day. :)

Re: What is the significance?

Quoted for thruth. :lajawab:

Re: What is the significance?

Answer to that is: twice the distance from the middle! hehehe

If you put everything into perspective, in this VAST universe, we are not even a a 1 millionth the size of a grain of sand! but its not our physical attributes that makes us stand out, its our inner belief.

my views are that if you truly believe in yourself, you can be the most influencial person around. its all about self confidence.

once you go down the route of lack of self confidence and feeling out of place, and not part of the bigger picture, then its all downhill.

be happy, eat well, sleep well, work hard, play harder and enjoy life. just like it say in my signature, you cant do anything about the past and present but seize the moment you live in now and enjoy life because you dont know when it will end.

Peace Out.

Re: What is the significance?

It has been said that when a butterfly flaps its wings in one region, its impact can be felt around the earth.

Re: What is the significance?

^ You mean every little thing you do has its impact somewhere - no matter how small the action is. What do all these big and small actions account to in the end?

I want to break it down to a... system... if that's possible. How does purpose give you significance. For example, I believe Allah created me for a reason - I know I am part of a bigger plan, but so are all the other individuals. How does this belief give significance to my life?

Purpose gives meaning to life. What is that *meaning *for everyone exactly...?

Re: What is the significance?

Yes - that is what I mean. So each of us, each living being is significant, no matter how small. As to what all of these actions amount to in the end - in the end the earth as we see it will probably be destroyed. But between now and then, each of us can leave our (hopefully) positive imprint. It could be helping out those who need help, treating others kindly, developing friendships among nations, using less energy, etc. These are practical things one can do.

It certainly helps to believe there is a greater purpose. I am not fortunate to know what that greater purpose is for me. A friend of mine once told me that it is good to give a hand and lift someone gently when they need that gentle lift the most. The trick is to do so without letting them even know that you have helped them.

In the end they account for all your goodness....naiki ka phal...

Re: What is the significance?

humans are significant coz they are ashraf ul maKhlooqaat...with intelligence and in the form of Allah Himself!

Re: What is the significance?

^ you mean from Allah Himself right....?
