Yesterday I saw a girl wearing a nice beige coloured scarf on her head, which nicely covered her chest as well. She wore a white top and a longe beige skirt and matching suede boots. However, the slits of the skirt went well above her knees and her boots came halfway up her leg. Now if she wasn’t wearing a scarf on her head I wouldn’t be confused, but what is the point of bearing your thighs whilst covering your hair?
Ventilation?
You almost made me choke on my breakfast Mr X. :p
According to my dad, the hijab is a traditional Arab dress and has nothing to do with Islam and girls wear it as a mere fashion statement. Now I don't fall into his school of thinking, but after seeing so many of these tight butt-revealing hipsters with scarf on top scenarios, I can't help but think maybe it is a mere fashion statement.
hmm, well I have also observed the same thing. You are absolutely right Catty. I don’t understand the reason why people wear headscarfs when they have to wear those tight busted shirts and tight fitted jeans.
In my view, which could be flawed and which isn’t something related to this discussion but something that I observed. I think muslims women fromSouth Asia try to cover their bodies rather than their heads and arabs and turkish women tend to do the opposite. I have seen they don’t mind wearing shorter skirts or the ones with slits but they do make sure to wear the headscarfs. (waisay I am not saying all of them do that)
khair, I have worn skirts with long slits
(can’t help it since I got most of those as gifts) but then you ought to be careful and wear those stockings…the first one I bought on my own was Edie Bower’s (sp) with no slit and I love it :–)
well, just to be on the safe side I am not here to censure anyone. Who knows what anyone’s true intentions are. I was just commenting on what I have observed.

Xtreme Bhai,
You made my day, but now I am scared, that whenever I see a woman wearing a skirt with slits, I am going to burst out laughing, just thinking about the concept of ventilation.
lol @ xtreme
Hijaab for most arabic n turkish ppl is something cultural ..i see gals wearing skirts n tight pants wid hijaab everyday ... n most of em are arabic n turkish ...
You can take these issues to ridiculous extremes if you want. No doubt someone will come along and insist anything less than a shuttlecock burkha with a mesh to see through is unacceptable.
Minerva's view that South Asian women tend to cover their bodies rather than their heads makes more sense. I have to admit when I see arab women peering through those slits in their tents it frightens the hell out of me. Or maybe into me...who knows?
well atleast she tried to cover something....
and pray for her that Allah gives her guidance and she tries to cover herself fully....
btw how much of the hijab have u girls implemented on your ownself????
or do u not see the mirror but wish to pass ur comments on others who try the little bit atleast....
and minerva, i think the shalwar kameez worn by the pakistanis (these days) is as tight as the jeans/t-shirt....
coming back to arabs, some of these ladies put on the headscarf just to keep their parents happy....
some even throw them off as soon as they know their parents r nowhere near....
Armughal, you are absolutely right. :) as far as shalwar kameez is concerned. But there are people who still know how to dress up and look decent...not everyone is willing to bare and dare.
I can't believe I have to explain this to a woman - some women wear scarfs because their hair is messy and they just don't want to wash it on that particular day.
Who cares what the other person wears, I gots to worry about my deeds. Live and let live.
Perhaps a closer look at home would make it easier to under stand the point. What have Pakistanis done with the dupatta? Probably a similar question arises ?

true. well said..
I dont see the point in talking about or dissing em all the time,, lets talk abt dupattas n slit shalwars, half sleeves..shalwar kameezes..
Sandleen, they can be desis too.. might not look it..
in my school I see desi girls wearing hijab, and a dupputta but short sleeve salwar kameez but its kinda loose. so it'sokay i guess.....
yeah i do tend to see that a lot--desi girls covering their bodies rahter than thier hair, but idon't know there doenst seem to be any point to that, covering everything but ur hair....on the flip side, there's no point in covering ur hair if ur gonna wear short tight stuff...
i'll admit that I wear shirts that go above my hips, but usually with a jacket on top so as to avoid the ugly underwear showing trend, but my pants are never that tight and i dont feel as if i have anythingto show off there..ahem..but yeah..i used to do that too..look at hijabi girls wearing ishtloads of makeup and tight stuff and think..wha'ts the point of covering ur hair....but since i wear it now, it's given me a new perspective...at least they're doing something that's fard...it's hard to cover ur hair sometimes..i mean i cover mybody more htan i did before, but i still wear makeup and perfuem sometimes..so who r we to judge right??

And I saw almost the opposite yesterday. It was a strange sight - young girl in hijab, very slim wearing a long skirt, beige in colour which was so tight she could bearly step more than a few inches when walking.
I could see more than I should have and it looked as if both her legs were taped up - looked v odd...

same goes for arabs....
same goes for hijab users....
same goes for all countries/societies....
so why generalize and make fuss about it????
I would have walked up to her and given her a slap. Seriously.
I still can't believe somebody would be that stupid though.
I've seen that a lot here. Scarf and skin tight clothes...scarf and half of your legs showing...scarf and hugging na-mehram guys...scarf and swearing a lot...these things just don't go together! When will these girls learn why they have to do it! I think it's only because of their parents as they force em to cover themselves or maybe they only know about covering their hair and no hijab for the rest of their body rolleyes. Reminds me of Suroor's signature "a hijabi in a mini skirt is like eating ham after saying bismillah"
May Allah show us the right path. AMEEEEEEN.
