There is a blatant explanation to your assertions that you seem to be disregarding. In order for someone to be CONSIDERED a Muslim they must call themselves Muslim, anyone who does not is not CONSIDERED a Muslim. However, if it should be the case that those people who say they are Muslim are really not and should it be the case that those who feel they are Muslims but say it not, then their TRUE judgement is with Allah(SWT) ...
Muslims can only go by the evidence at hand and we cannot see into the hearts of people and so must operate in accordance with how they wish to be known, putting our feeling to a side.
That is the position that Muslims should hold.
