I saw a thread on shortest marriage to end in divorce. My question is what is the longest marriage you know of to end in divorce and the known reason for divorce. These are the most painful and heart rendering that tear apart entire families and khandans.
Re: what is the longest marriage that u know to end in divorce
I think about 12 years? The husband wanted to marry his younger brother's wife who had become widowed. He started pressuring his wife into letting him take on a 2nd wife to "help" his brother's wife and their young kid. The wife found that alone to be a huge deal-breaker and once things got worse, she asked for a divorce.

My parents divorced after 20 years of marriage....It's a testament to their willingness to try and make it work that they even lasted that long...
Re: what is the longest marriage that u know to end in divorce
I'm heartbroken that Seal and Heidi broke up. I really thought they'd last. :(

Was the widow keen on marrying him as well?
There was a thread on here once about brothers marrying their dead siblings wives.. still can't get my head around it..

Re: what is the longest marriage that u know to end in divorce

Re: what is the longest marriage that u know to end in divorce
wow :(
Re: what is the longest marriage that u know to end in divorce
I think a lot of people were shocked by that.. Prob one of the v.v.few celeb couples people thought would stay together.. Seal is apparently still wearing his wedding ring (not that that necessarily must mean something) but seems it might not be a permanent split:
Re: what is the longest marriage that u know to end in divorce
42 years. But this wasn't necessarily a sad story. The wife knew for years that the husband was sleeping with women on the side. They had a understanding that the "show" will go on as long as he practiced discretion. Finally one day the husband got careless, anc choose a "wrong girl" (can't really get into specifics). Wife found out that their mutual friends were aware of the fact he was cheating.....she wasn't about to put up with social humiliation....so she filed with divorce. Now she's a VERY rich single woman.

Not sure if the widow was or not but he kept insisting he wanted to "help" her. Creepy either way. And I thought Seal and Heidi would last too! I think she initiated it because Seal still is wearing his ring and is saying nothing but great things about her. Sad.
Re: what is the longest marriage that u know to end in divorce
Looks like Heidi is also still wearing her ring…Heidi Klum Still Wearing Wedding Ring After Split (Just Like Seal!)
Re: what is the longest marriage that u know to end in divorce
^Yeah, saw that too. I hope they reconcile and make up. :(
Re: what is the longest marriage that u know to end in divorce
20 years. I don't know the reasons.
The wife was beautiful though so remarried in a matter of no time - even with grown children.
Re: what is the longest marriage that u know to end in divorce
I don't know what's more sad...for things to end early on or for the marriage to have come so far along and then come to an end. Is the former better cuz less time was invested and less people (in the event that there are no children) will be affected. I know it depends on the circumstances.
Re: what is the longest marriage that u know to end in divorce
I know someone accidentally (actually he has no intention of divorcing her but somehow uttered T word 3 time in one sitting) divorced her wife of 26 years.
Re: what is the longest marriage that u know to end in divorce
^ That is not a valid divorce.
Re: what is the longest marriage that u know to end in divorce
17 years...my friend took khula after 17 years of marriage, reason was physical abuse from her husband. She's Italian muslim and in her late 30s btw. She decided to leave her abusive husband (who's arab) after the birth of their daughter who's 2 years old now.

It is according to Hanafi Fiqh if man utters T words even in any situation it would be valid. But in that case the husband was follower of Ahle Hadis which would consider it only one divorce thus argue that according to their Fiqh it is only one Divorce.
But wife side was Haifi for them it is 3 divorces thus Talaq is completed.
It was a sad story.

Are they better off now? What were there differences if you don't mind me asking? Anybody remarried? Lately it seems like we have hearing about so many people filing for divorce. It is always sad to hear when a new marriage doesn't work out. But even worse when marriages that have grown kids to part ways. I have been feeling really depressed about this new emerging trend. family is the foundation for society ....that's what I was always taught. Very few marriages I know of are perfect. Most of the ones I know ppl have had there fair share of discord and spats. Hollywood marriages are different. Any marriage in the public eye is sort of doomed. But I am trying to understand what goes thru people's mind when they decide to call it quits after 20, 25, 30 years? does something snap in their mind?
