Investing years/decades into it only to have him have a mid-age crisis or a bout of adolescence or whatever.

What if it is not the right person for me, what if we're not truly compatible. What if I learn something about the person that makes it impossible to continue.

The biggest thing I dread about marriage is: spending an insane amount of money on the wedding, having to change and adjust my lifestyle according to another person, having to spend my money on someone else, having little to no sex for the rest of my life, having to raise kids while being one of the few people on earth who acknowledge they probably shouldn't because its a tough job and im probably not good enough at it, having to put up with endless in-fighting and seeing my original family break off with me, watching all my dreams and aspirations take a back seat to taking care of other human beings, having no freedom, have to constantly listen to nagging, being divorced and getting 50% of my property taken away (only in America).

A bunch of things...Getting bored. My life becoming about just going through the motions. Being with a man who expects me to drop a lot of what I like and worked hard for. But most of all, getting bored with life.

My biggest fear is ending up with a douchebag simply because I settled out of desperation, and turns out he really doesn't care about me, doesn't love me, and doesn't respect me and treats me like scum.
Yeah, I've seen some of my girlfriends go through this, and some of those marriages ended up in divorces. It amazes me. If you don't love the girl, you know what? I know, original idea, but, how about you NOT marry her?

imagine a person who's totally horrible to people that are my sweet, loved ones.....a wolf in sheep's clothing, I wouldn't be able to handle that

I have lots of fears:
- falling out of love and not liking each other (either me or him)
- not having the desire or ability to compromise
- changing so much of myself to please him that I don't recognize or like myself any more

I think I'd actually prefer boring.
And as for taking calculated risks - that's where the desire for common values, common personal and professional standards and aspirations comes from - the idea that such a person is "relatable" to me.
