what is 'thanda khana'?

Hi
I would like to know what the hell is ‘thanda khana’… so for example my mom suggets me to eat watermelon in summer because it’s ‘thanda’ or coriander chutney because I got some pimples…
Which vegtables/fuits/other food can be considered ‘thanda’?
Thank you!

Re: what is 'thanda khana'?

matlab in khaanoN kii taaseer ThanDii hai...in other words, she is trying to tell you which foods are good for ur skin and which aren't.

Re: what is 'thanda khana'?

can you suggest some 'thanda' foods - especially fruits - to integrate in my daily routine?
Thank you.

Re: what is 'thanda khana'?

Yogurt!!

Re: what is 'thanda khana'?

Its called Taseer in urdu and perhaps Effect in english.

Dry fruits for example have a garam taseer aka warm/hot effect while Milk with ice has a Cooling effect or Taseer.

Fruits with the cooling effect:
Strawberries
Cherries
Apples
Mango Shakes
Water Melons
Sugar Cane

Re: what is 'thanda khana'?

The melon family of fruits: honey dew, cantaloupe, water melon

Re: what is 'thanda khana'?

Sattooo, Tukhm-e-Langaa, Lassi, Faalsay ka sharbat

Re: what is 'thanda khana'?

hell no ...any fruit with acid can never be thanda .. I doubt ...

Re: what is 'thanda khana'?

You don't have acne from lack of consumption of thandi foods. If you get pimples then you get pimples. It doesn't have anything to do with thanda/garam foods. Eat healthy ofcourse, incorporate as many fruits and vegetables in you diet as you can and take good care of your skin.

If pimples still don't go away then see a dermatologist.

Re: what is 'thanda khana'?

I think there is more to it, one fruit can have a hot effect if taken raw while the same fruit can have the cold effect when had with milk. Another example can be mangoes, if consumed raw they have the warm/hot effect but if consumed as a shake, it has the cold effect/taaseer.

Without confusing the OP anymore, here are a few more additions which in my knowledge are of cold effect.

Green Coriander
Coconut Water
Peppermint
Cucumber
Pineapple
Spinach

Apples and strawberries also are considered cold effect/taseer'd but since they're controversial, I chose not to mention them.

soo dont like it:bummer:

Re: what is 'thanda khana'?

Personally I don't believe in any of this garam and thanda business........ (runs away to hide)

Re: what is 'thanda khana'?

garam food - foods which have a warm/hot effect like eggs, dry fruits, chocolates, mangoes (if u eat these too much ur skin will become bad)

*thanda food *- food with cold effect and which can keep your body cool like watermelons, cucumber, yoghurt, milk, melons, mint.

for ur skin i'll say avoid (if possible completely) garam khana for the full 1 week and go for lots of thanda khana only. u will see improvement in skin your self.

Re: what is 'thanda khana'?

Forget this garam thanda bakwas. Food that might cause someone to break out won't necessarily make you break out. Just watch what you eat and determine whether or not there are specific foods that make you break out. Avoid those foods, regardless of whether they are garam or thanda. Yoghurt, for example, is considered thanda food according to people in this thread but dairy products do cause breakouts in some people. :/

If your pimples are that bad, see a dermatologist. Use a gentle oil-free cleanser and a oil-free moisturiser. Wash your face twice daily. Check out some topical acne treatments such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Don't touch your face. Keep your hair out of your face. Avoid wearing makeup. If you do wear makeup, make sure it is noncomedogenic and oil-free. Make sure to remove any makeup before going to bed. Try avoiding the sun.

Re: what is 'thanda khana'?

I don't have too much pimples... I get them when I eat lots of 'garam' foods: pizza, hamburgers, McDonald's and so on... I am trying to avoid them, and eating lots of 'thanda' foods.
I'll note all your suggestions: thank you all!

Re: what is 'thanda khana'?

^^ Its common to have such a symptom after ingesting "garam" foods (among others such as nosebleeds) as it raises the body temperature. It doesn't necessarily mean that the food is bad for your skin but just that you have to ingest the "garam" and "thanda" in equilibrium.

*Garam:
*

  • Coconuts
  • All dry fruits and seeds
  • Egg Yolk
  • Mango (good for skin but still a vasodilator)
  • Cheese
  • Red meat
  • Fish (and all other seafood)
  • Tomatoes
  • All spicy foods
  • Peppers
  • Coffee, Black Tea / All caffeine products
  • Chocolate / All cocoa products
  • Apricot
  • Guava (good for skin)
  • Eggplant, Yam, Pumpkin
  • Olives,
  • All oils
  • Processed junk foods high in sodium

*Thanda:
*

  • Water
  • Milk
  • Yogurt
  • Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Honey Dew Melon
  • Pomegranate, Faalsa, Apple, Grape / All citrus fruit
  • Cucumber, Radish, Mint, Spinach
  • Turkey
  • Rice / Starches
