It's quite sad that you only earn to spend on material things.
I work as well PCG but I would never regard a housewife as a freeloader.

You can't think of it as freeloading...cause the amount of time and effort she puts into the kids is immeasurable...and no amount of money etc...could ever be equivalent to that man!
Contrary to your stance they are known as loving, caring wives and their kids call them loving caring mothers.
What did you have for breakfast today ? Everything in life is not as bad as you think or portray it to be. You need to get your eyes checked so that you can see the things in their right perspective. 
I would love to be a house wife. I am married and have one baby masallah. I work 10 hours (4 days a week).. It's a lot of work and my house work is sacrificed because of that.. Unfortunately our finances don't allow me to be JUST a house wife, but i think it should be a women's choice wheather she wants to work outside of her house or not. I have to work but Insallah one day when my husband makes enough to support all of us and our expenses it would be the most incredible job i think to be a house wife!

But PCG, it's a husband's duty to provide for his wife and family regardless of if she works or not. Whatever possessions they buy is really between the spouses, but if he takes care of his responsibilities, he is doing his farz.

What about before kids if she's just relaxing around at home. Go to the salon, do a bit of shopping, meet her gf's for lunch or coffee.

Yea, alot of it centres on kids and whether she lives in a joint family system.
But stoppit, alot of women work and go to the salon, shop and meet their gf's for lunch as well so it can't be just that.

It's the housewives who are constantly in the kitchen cooking and washing dishes which single women avoid.

Its really not a freeloader if you do it properly. Once you are into it you realize this. I am not talking about those housewife who wake up at 12Noon to watch Zee TV dramas and their "masssis" do all the house work.

Only if they have an unfulfilling job. More than a week of chilling out doing nothing would drive most people crazy.

All those years when I was going to school and working, all I wanted to do was just take a break and stay home.
I got that break.
Now i want to go back to work/school.
Before having kids, i don't see being a housewife or staying at home being productive or difficult at all, but rather a vacation, relaxation and thing of leisure.

it all depends on individual circumstances. There is nothing wrong for being housewife for a woman.
If the husband makes enough, working for a woman is a luxury...this sanity thing to work is overblown too.
All in all, housewives do better if husband makes enough.
Both working women and housewives do contribute to society in their capacities.
