salafi are those people who deny to be followers of 4 Imams (Shafi'i, Hanafi, Maliki or Hambli) but instead say that they do research and follow the right thing, actually in the end they also endup following one guy (scholar) (I don't remember his name).

"Salafi" is the adopted name by those who were otherwise commonly known as Wahabis. Mostly from Saudi Arabian peninsula, and followers of the teachings of Muhammad Bin Abdul Wahab. The premise of Abdul Wahab's teachings is borne out of his disgust at Turks, who were the dominant force in Muslim Khilafat at that time. Present day Wahabi/Salafis are generally very much against most muslim practices of Indo-Pakistan as well, and consider pretty much everything as bi'daa (innovation). Problem with this approach is that they tend to turn violent against people who don't subscribe to their thinking. Origins of rise of Wahabi'sm is rife with killings of hundreds of thousands of muslims by the followers of Abdul Wahab. They were supported by the House of Saud, the present day rulers of Saudi Arabia. The same violent streak carries over to this day.

No guys, dont post wrong information. It stands for sulphur(the stink it makes) and right (as in right wing agenda). In this case right wing using thsi word without knowing the actual meaning is creating a stink as usual.

Salafi is a derived from the word Salaf, which means predecessors. It is is true not all Salafis are on the right path, and there are some who really have a messed up creed, but majority of Salafi scholars and followers follow orthodox Islam.
Infact i was reading an article, where the writer had taken a severly anti-Salafi stance, and his número uno reason was that they follow the Quran literally.
Where did you get that from? Stop playing a neem hakeem, and hence misguiding the rest.
That is because most of the practices in the subcontinent are biddah. From Shab e Baraat to Peer-Mureedi to the Mazaars, everything is innovation. An unbelievably great percentage of Muslims in the subcontinent dont even know their basic tawheed, and are hence involved in various forms of polytheism, knowingly and unknowingly.
Do you have any examples as proofs or is it just another one of those baseless claims.

This info is based on the discussion I had with one salafi, if you think he was wrong then I’m wrong too. Who according to your knowledge do they follow (in terms of “fiqh”)?

Mohammad ibn Abdul Wahaab (the reviver of orthodox Islam in Arabia) was a follower of Hanbali fiqh, and majority of Salafis follow the teachings of Sheikh ul Islaam Imam Ibn Taymiyaah, who was also a Hanbali scholar.
Your statement was flawed because Salafi's do follow the teaching of the Four Imams and respect them. But they do not follow them blindly. No one deserves to be followed blindly, no matter how learned or respected he is. That level of respect was only for the Prophet Muhammad (SAS), and hence we say: "Sama'yna wa Ata'na" (We listen and we obey)...no matter what.

If you read my statement again I did say that in the end they do follow one (now you mentioned that forgotten name Ibn Taymiah) which in turn follows one of the 4 Imams.
And I agree with you what you said later that none of them said follow me only, the only reason later scholars suggested to follow one was due to lack of interest in religious education (this could be a subject for another discussion).

OBL is a salafi and is widely respected by other salafis. That's all I need to know. Instead of being intimidated by them, moderate muslims should denounce them at every turn.
