The Holy Prophet pbuh said that before expressing something bad (according to you) about somebody , you should cry while praying for them 40 days !! Even then a muslim's respect if haraam on another.
Secondly what comes to my mind is when an idol worshipper, a sinner and someone who was an opponent of Hazur pbuh in war was killed by Hazrat usama after he read the kalima - lead to Hazur pbuh being the most angry in his life at him, Usama said ' he read the kalima out of fear!' and Hazur replied 'but did you pierce his heart and see what is inside it?'
To decide after the kalima is the right of God not you.
I think theres no harm in asking questions and trying to be informed about sects in the world -
argue on which point u feel is wrong - provide references - discuss and not quarrel ...
and most of all pray that Allah shows u the right path.
