Bhutto's era might be a golden one for jiyalas but was hell for people belonging to opposition parties. The way he dealt with dissent NAP, Balochistan, Khar as governor Punjab and FSF is all a known fact. He was a divisive figure who made the foundation of Pakistan's downfall.

It doesn't change the fact it was Bhutto who authorised the nasty clause, and it was his curse like family who did nothing about it despite being in power - in one way or another - for many years. However, unfortunately we have enough share of jahils and stupids in the country that think that rotten constitution is the word of God, anyone who dares question it or challenge it on merit is a traitor of highest order. The seen and unseen and imaginary clauses in constitution are above and beyond the miseries and troubles of Pakistanis on the ground.

But hopefully, one day, perhaps few generations later, we'll get rid of this pathetic mentality to move forward and start a debate on the relevance and validity of parts of Bhutto/Zia's constitution.

Sadly we are not able to look at history from an impartial and objective perspective, acknowledge mistakes made in the past and try to learn from them. Somehow we think its all about upholding myths and keep the image of our (political) heroes clean.

And this doesn't necessairly only apply to Bhutto and PPP.
