Can someone please elaborate on the fact that why does MAC cosmetics make some people breakout? what are its contents …

I don't think its the makeup itself that causes people to break out. As far as I know MAC is 100% safe. I use it and its never caused me to break out in spots. Maybe the spots are occuring because the make up is not being removed properly.
I just read an article in Asiana Wedding mag (winter 2009) regarding spots and break outs. It says that break outs occur when skin pores become blocked with dead skin cells and sebum. Stress can also make us produce certain hormones which increase the production of sebum and hence more spots.
So yeah... I reckon its more of a thorough cleansing issue rather than what brand of make up is 'safer'.

If breaking out is an issue, then you need to buy the oil-free products.

as for the oil-free part ... that's where my primer for oily skin comes in ... i'm using the laura mercier one ... it's awesome!
and cleaning skin properly ... i have a twice a day regimen, and i never go to bed without removing makeup ... what more can i say ...

i never break out even when i slept with makeup and all that. but just one day of mac foundation for 7 hours (i cleaned my face very well later) caused such a horrible break out that i needed doctors prescribed medicine

Mac foundation is heavy Yanzala. You could expect that if you're prone to breakouts. Which foundation did you use?

I don't think all Mac cosmetics will break you out. Yes, may be the foundation because their foundation is usually heavy. I think it's trial and error, try different foundations until you find the one that doesn't break you out. I use mineral makeup for every day use and Mac foundation for special occasions only.
For reference, I have acne prone skin.

Personally I've never had problems with it but then again I only use a very tiny amount because like others have mentioned it is quite thick and heavy. I had to throw my last bottle out because I had it for so long and I had barely used half of it. I know 2 girls who got married recently and their MUA used MAC foundation etc and they had all that heavy bridal make up on for like over 12 hours but they didn't have any problems with it either. I guess maybe some people just have more sensitive skin than others.

i am concerned becuz MUA use MAC ... and i dont want to wake up with a pimple-face the next day after being married! especially when now i am working so hard to keep it clean. and then have a valima with a pimple-face too :(
but it is also true that though i like bobbie-brown a lot ... it perhaps isnt the best for bridal makeup ... or is it?

Well I cnt comment on whether or not its best for bridal make up but if ur concerned abt MUA using MAC maybe u can find ur own foundation etc that ur comfortable with and ask them to use that on the day of ur wedding/walima and then use their own products for eye make up, shimmer/blush, lipstick etc to finish off the look.

Farrah it seems like you my have sensitive skin. I would advise you to go and see your GP first :) Do you cleanse, tone and moisturise every day? Water is good for your skin and soap isn't. Do you have the same prob with other brands?

i use sisley's foundation..but only when i am going out to someone's house or a wedding..etc..
dont use foundation on a daily basis..a tinted moisturizer (laura mercier, have tried stila and smashbox) looks better for everyday use.

I haven't been so careful with my skin as i have been for a quite a while now. almost army like!
and i RARELY wear "makeup" ... nothing on eveyday basis .. and if i have to go somewhere .. then just the primer, powder foundation, concealor, blush, mascara and lipgloss. that's it. and even more rarely an eye-liner/eye-shadow.
chanda if you have sensitive skin, is it safe for you to use the glycolic/salicylic peels?? ... iv been really thinking of using the "for oily/acne prone" salicylic peel ... but have been a bit apprehensive. they say at your own risk??
and mineral-oil products .. which ones would that be? even mineral makeup?

Cant remember which one it is for sure now, but its either the Mineralize satin finish or the studio fix it does contain ingredients tht make u brake out :(

Farrah it is safe as long as it is administered by a professional....
I asked a lot of questions when I had a peel done years ago...then stuck with diy routine. It is always best to start from the lowest concentration...now Alhamdulilah its been great.

What are you using to apply the foundation? is it sponges or brushes- make sure they're clean. If it's your fingers or hands make sure that you wash your hands. You'd be surprised at the number of people who touch their faces often and the places where they get zits is where they keep touching touching their faces! The bacteria on your hands/brushes/sponges can also cause you to break out. If the break out is really small bumbs (rather than actual zits that contain the white puss or mucus) then it's an allergic reaction for sure. If they're zits with puss/mucus (if you happen to pop it you can see the white) then it's from bacteria - whether it's being produced by your body and/or from your pores getting blocked by oils/make-up, etc.

hmmmmmmmmmmmm .. interesting ... now i am lost .. i dont know if its the mineralize skin finish powder foundation that's been breaking me out or what ... cuz jab say meinay wo use kiya hai ... randomly pimples nikalna shuru ho gayay hein .. eventhough m barely/rarely using it (like 2 times a month)
but which MAC foundation do MUAs normally use for a bridal?

I've seen them use kryolan and dermablend brands for the foundation base, but use MAC brand products for the eyes, blush, lips, etc.
