I don’t think Relationships section is the place for such comments. People don’t expect religious debates here. However, there are posters who request a religious perspective on things. In such cases, non-relgious folks should either avoid the thread or try to give their perspective without bringing religion into things. I wouldn’t discuss religion with someone I met in person unless they wanted to. Then why do it here? The wanting to discuss religion happens when a member ventures into the Religion and Philosophy section.
That said, the correct way to deal with someone criticizing religion is to invite them to open a thread in Religion & Philosophy. That’s a lot better that accusing someone of not knowing what they’re talking about or asking them to shut up.
I think the above comment provides a reasonable guideline on how to approach religion online and in real life. Cliff Notes: Avoid talking about religion (& politics) unless the other person brings it up.
