Simply put, it’s about tolerance. A moderate muslim is one who’s incredibly upset or even outraged at the danish cartoons, but who realizes at the same time that others have every right to insult you or your beliefs. They have the right to be an assh0le if they want to, and the proper recourse is to protest to anyone who will listen. That’s why the word tolerance is used and not acceptance.

and observers ahve to look at it that way then, someone protesting against something in a peaceful manner does not become anti this or anti that. sadly the political pundits and the 2 bit rag papers like to deal in extremes and thus totally ignore the rest.

while you see news splashed about a few dozen or hundred or even thousand people go on protests, and then members of parties with agendas using it for their own purposes, we never quite show how for millions others, they may be upset and hurt but they are not going to be violent.

The real question is do "Moderate Muslims" count?

To the extent they allow the extremists to exist, then they are not the loudest voices, and the prospect of counterbalancing the extremists is remote.

"Moderate Muslim" implies some weight, some counterbalance to the extremists. There were plenty of good Catholics, but until pedophile court cases threatened to bankrupt the Archdiocese, Catholics and their decent priests did not make enough noise to change the course of their church. Catholics were of the mind to say, "Not my priest, not my problem", until they faced closure of their own church they did not really react.

Moderate Muslims are whispering really loudly about how the random killing around the world is not their responsibility. Until it becomes personal you will continue to whisper.

Until you shout, you don't count.

Prays (sometimes) Friday prayers and considers it his good deed of the month and obliging God by doing it...By this act alone considers himself most pious in eyes of God...

Seldom shows any solidarity with other Muslims over any issue, in fact, to prove that he is not an extremist, will do the opposite of what Muslims are doing at any moment...

Is the loudest voice in a room denouncing "Islamic terrorism" and the quietest when the subject turns to the war in Iraq...

Has all the general knowledge one can acquire about pop culture of the country he resides in and considers knowing how to pray enough knowledge as far as Islam is concerned...

Are the ones the NSA, FBI or CIA can turn to in times of need to supply them with information leading to the arrest of many as a patriotic duty...Whether the information os wrong or correct, the moderate has shown his faithfulness...

Are the ones from which the west would like the Muslim world to choose its leaders from...So they can serve their purpose loyally for a mere pat on the head...

Hate Osama, Zawahiri, Zarqawi e.t.c. or any other the media will train them to hate...

Are extremely malleable personalities, full of doubts, so resort to the media to get a definite opinion about something...Even Islam...

Take the doctrine of Al Wala wal Bara out of Islam, and you'd have what is called Moderate Islam.

Followers of that version are called Moderate Muslims. :)

We all can see what the great nonmoderate Muslims are doing in Pakistan these past few days. They sure are acting on their impulses. A great role model for all of us spinless moderate Muslims.

A Moderate Muslim??? well who is one???, I personally think each and every Muslim on this Forum and in this Country and in this World is moderate when it suits their needs, thats where it ends, like I said on another thread otherwise we are either Fanatics at the best and Terrorists at the worst.

I have been called Munafiq, a Kafir and even a Islam Hater, but the Irony is that I have been called this names by the same people who are riding on the same boat as me.

Moderate muslims don't count for much in the media at least, in everyday life they are probably the only type of muslim most will encounter. When a couple of hundred fanatics marched waving placards and facial hair, they were front page news for a week. When thousands marched peacefully, waving British flags no one wanted to know.
