This is something that the EU and the West has been using in the recent cartoon issue, but also since Sept 11th. Can someone please define for me a Moderate Muslim - because to be honest I have no bloody idea.
A Muslim to me is one who believes in the 5 pillars. That is the most basic definition of a muslim. How can that be extreme, conservative, moderate or liberal?
But then again people would like to qualify that with concepts that originate on moral debates and ethical issues. Is a moderate Muslim one who agrees with Abortion? But then again is that person Muslim at all if he agrees to something that Islam does not allow?
Is a moderate Muslim who believes in secularism but then again is he or she a muslim for forgetting that Soveriegnty lies only with Allah?
Recently in Denmark and in the West there has been a general trend to divide muslims in to categories that have no clear definitions.
So I ask you how do you define a Moderate Muslim? Is there even such a thing?
Moderate, radical, orthodox, progressive, evalengical, etc. are terms used when people are intentionally trying to be ambiguous. Using of these terms mean you can interpret them to your own liking while I have the right to go back on my words if I feel like it. These terms can be easily replaced with ‘those people’ and the context of where they are used will tell you exactly who the subject is.
There are other terms like evolution, conservative, liberal, Jihad etc that can’t really be pinned down either.
For some anomalous reason our society portrays those four categories as follows-
Extremist is usually used for men who have a long beard and lives with few wives in his cozy homes. Who do not work they simply go around with jamat-e-islami.
Then we have another section called Conservative- these are basically used for Families who still hold some very extreme Islamic values which most has forgotten. They tend to tie with their own circle unwilling to accept others or even communicate with them.
Glancing at the moderates- I think most of us fall under that category, these are usually educated people they do recognize Islam and follow to the best of their capabilities. They also respect other religions and accept them the way they are.
Liberal- lets just say they are Muslims because they inherited Islam.
I don’t think this trend is going to change at all. Yeah sometimes during our lives we do fluctuate amount those categories depending on the situations we are placed in. For now we feel our parents are conservatives and we are moderate. I am sure our kids will think the same so this is something that will never change.
The question is who is right? Should’nt Muslims be all one. There should be no cast or no categories to differentiate them. In real world it does not work like that. We will always have people who will fall under all these sections. This is how the society works and it will remain like that. As time is coming closer and closer to Qayamaah Unfortunately Liberal are increasing drastically.
Then again who am I to judge. I feel if one follows Quran Shareef and follow path of Our beloved Prophet PBUH it should be a nice and smooth ride to heaven[atleast let me believe that].
Definition of a Moderate muslim from a non-muslim's perspective: If you agree with me, you are moderate. If you don't, you are a sob who should be shot in the arse IMHO.
Definition of a Moderate muslim from a muslim's perspective: If you agree with me, you are on the path of enlightenment. If you don't, you should pack your bags, leave the ummah and don't look back. sob!
Does not blow himself or herself up to kill others for political or religious goals
Does not burn down banks, offices, cars etc. over cartoons
Does not spread hatred against others because they believe differently
Does not kidnap and behead people who have a different ideology or viewpoint
You seem to be an OBL fan, but please dont draw out your own conclusions!

that disgraces the founding member of a religion rather they befriend the publishers and support them.

No they dont, they just dont care. You fanatics were the ones responsible for getting the whole thing the attention it got today. Hadnt you jumped out of your patloons and burnt flags and carried out opposition rallies, no one would have cared.

rather they would use this hatred to seek power and position.

We are talking about ordinary people, not politicians.

but would do the dirty work of others any time and any place.

Again, you have no clue what you are talking about. But I admire your love for the fanatics.
However what US and some western countries are trying to dictate is exactly opposite to what they did during cold war. So the new world order is to "oppose the influence of militant Islam in the United States and abroad".
Simply put, it's about tolerance. A moderate muslim is one who's incredibly upset or even outraged at the danish cartoons, but who realizes at the same time that others have every right to insult you or your beliefs. They have the right to be an assh0le if they want to, and the proper recourse is to protest to anyone who will listen. That's why the word tolerance is used and not acceptance.
