In US 50K is moderate, but an OK salary. I don't know about girls' standards.
However 70K is definetely a handsome income for a small family.

Which village do you live in? where I live it is hard to afford a 3 bedroom Home in 100K salary. I must move to your place.

When I was in college this one professor in our college wrote a book titled millionaire next door. He pointed out in his book that there are more “millionaires” living around you than you thought. Sometimes a term carries on its conotations even after losing its substantiality. I think it’s the same thing “six figures salary”. I don’t think there is as much “hawwa” or “awe” attached to the term anymore than what it used to be say 10 years ago. A lot more people make six figures now while still relatively young than what it used to be. Inflation also has its part in it. Having said that, however, $50k is still a good salary in most of the suburban America to start off with unless you’re a doctor and have $200k student loan.

I think I've heard of that book, as well as the concept..basically it states that alot of people are milionaires because htey do not lead the typical rich-person lifestyle.....just the fact that they might live next door to you pretty much shows they're living well wihtin their means

what world you live in! Believe me.. even a British 100K ain't enough for THAT life style. :)
Sir jee, I know people in US (recently visited last year) that earn 100K, ofcourse for last 20+ years :) of their service and have 800K big house on hill (which I called mension in my post as it is built as such) in a posh area, own latest SUVs and a convertable. They must have known a way to spend carefully and save for such a life style. For a starter, it might look difficult, but people do earn and save and build fortunes. So yes in 100K you can do it, when? right away? or after some time? is a totally different thing. But you can.

Just wondering here..... I had income of nearly half of mill. before marriage,
but the top-tax was a killer! Starting from 40 %, I ended up paying 60 % of brutto income.
Saleries/wages in Scandinavia seems better than US/Canada?
Honestly, who cares whatever a man earns? Its his qualities that would count at end. I hate golddiggers or desi mentality to persue the wealth or status of men...... He should be man in true old fashion way, with great values and respect for opposite gender.

This started as a thread about perceptions of a "good salary"-gave a suggested benchmark of 50K and has become a moral crusade thread. We know a man is more then his income, but cash rules.

Yeah you know as a man about the qualities of men. But its mama or aunt who is going to find future wife and they DONT always know money is not all, but still a factor.

then max tax can be 59 % of brutto income.
So if I had to compare US/canada tax system
to scandinavian tax system...... It would be had
been fun. Nothing else.
we have limit on self payments for pension:
annually amount is 42.000 kr.
This amount is given back in tax-refunds....

yaar, dekho, the house may be worth 800K now but it does not mean someone making 100K can buy a house worth 800K now. a simple test woukd be to look at a home affordability calculator and see.
so yeah they probably saved, and gained in real estate and traded up etc.
But today if you were making 100K, you will not be able to get a 800K house. basic maths. interest only ARMs aside, and i doubt even in that case it would work.

Exactly! Its income related, you can max take loan 5 times own income.
Pension savings pvt and work plus general savings are also good financial credits at bank.
