What is a "good" salary?

Re: What is a "good" salary?

hey ppl cme on i mean u guys are argueing over $50k-$100k, vo tho banday he hain na that earn like 20rps a day in pakistan india maybe more maybe less. u shud b happy with wat u get n b grateful to Allah that He has given u the knowledge so that u r able to earn wat u r n lead a good lifestyle

Re: What is a "good" salary?

I am grateful to Allah for whatever success I've had so far and will Inshallah continue to have in the future. Discussing and comparing salaries in different countries and cities does not mean that you are not grateful or not aware that there are people who are less fortunate.

Re: What is a "good" salary?

How about this: Research the county you plan on living in and find the median household salary. It's fairly easy. I'd say you're doing well if you meet or exceed the median salary.

All the best,
Pink Paki.

Re: What is a "good" salary?

London is hella expensive. The surrounding areas are crazy too.

I hear the North is cheap (and crap).

Re: What is a "good" salary?

uk tax rates upto 28k - 25% tax, anything you earn over 28k is taxed at 40%. average wage is around 24k pounds.

i agree with anyone who said that rather then how much you earn its all about how considerate you are with money.

Re: What is a "good" salary?

agreed, how much you're able to save is just as important as how well you earn.

as for salary, it depends on your profession, but in nyc, entry-level candidates with not much experience can expect to make abt 40k. bachelor's with few yrs experience abt 55k-65k, which is very comfortable for a single person. i see ppl with masters degrees easily earning 85k or more.

it depends also on whether u're a consultant or salaried employee. if consultant, how many layers of middle men there are between you and your job.

Re: What is a "good" salary?

£24k is not the average wage. Are you mad?

The Per capita income is $38,624, so converted into £ is about £19k. (IMF stats are expressed in $ terms).

That a lot less then 24K.

Re: What is a “good” salary?

^im sorry leg, but your not as well informed as you think. its been over 20k for years!!!

Workers in London are wealthier than their counterparts elsewhere in the uk, despite the higher cost of living, research shows today.

Research comparing salaries with the cost of living found that while Londoners take home 40% more than employees outside the capital - an average of £30,984 - their living costs are only 9.7% higher. This puts them top of the Wealth Index compiled by salary comparison website Payfinder.com. According to Payfinder the national average salary is £22,411 but in many regions workers earn less. Among those at the bottom of the pay scale were the east of England, Wales and the south-west. Employees in some of these regions suffered a double whammy of low salaries and a relatively high cost of living.

this was for 2005!!

Re: What is a "good" salary?

you guys do know the difference between per capita income and avergae salary right?

thought I would draw your attention to it

Re: What is a "good" salary?

:)

Re: What is a "good" salary?

mr frauds ive got you down as the over $100k earner!!

btw whats the tax like in canada and US?

Re: What is a "good" salary?

they say
never ask..
a man his wage
a woman her age
and a student
his
grade point average

taxes in US are a killer man, I dont think they are as high as in Canada and UK, ut then you gys dont have to pay for health insurance and all that stuff. I mean in Canada you get mney from state to have kids...what a deal for desis eh?

Re: What is a "good" salary?

haha i like that :D

Re: What is a "good" salary?

yeah explains the multicultralism in toronto:D

Re: What is a "good" salary?

But then you'd have to pronounce average weirdly.. :(

Re: What is a "good" salary?

For sure if you can manage your bank balance with proper care 75k+ is good enough for a family of four (Parents+ kids) i.e if take good care of the accounts and not spending the money like water.

Re: What is a "good" salary?

yeah.. i dont think that is going to be a problem for majority of the posters here ya know.

Re: What is a "good" salary?

one of the biggest expenses for anyone is housing costs, so rent vs buy, condo/townhouse vs singlr family, location and size of the house, property taxes, all factor in.

so the sum on which one can live comfortable in des moines iowa, is not the same on which one can live comfortably in manhattan or san francisco. they will have to sacrifice one thing or another.

Re: What is a "good" salary?

true. also i remember, with one of the companies i worked for, a co-worker took an intra company transfer to some place in the mid-west, and the company actually did a salary adjustment for him! i guess he wasn't expecting to earn less money when he asked for it.

Re: What is a "good" salary?

ok so we more or less know what is required to live comfortably in uk and north america. ive heard that desis in norf america are doing really well. what positions and what industries are desis doing well in?
