So, I know a number of non-muslim women who have had breast implants. Yes, I know its a taboo topic, boo hoo.
Im not saying its normal for non-muslims to get breast implants - still a big deal and people are hush hush about it BUT not as much as desies are.
Two questions:
A) Are they halal? Why and why not? If a woman is under going serious self esteem issues and depression because she is not happy with the way she looks, what is the harm? Some just arent born with it, what do they do?
From what I know, altering what Allah has given you is considered un-halal. Now implants...I don't really know if we have rulings on that and say plastic surgeries...

Is it safe? I hear they are getting better now.
crap, now I have to find circumcision reversal surgery :(
what about ear and nose piercings then?
There are risks with **all **surgeries.
I know a couple of older muslim women who had double mastectomies, and opted for breast implants.
I know some younger muslim women (30 and younger) who had prophylactic mastectomies, and thus had breast implants to recreate the volume they lost.
I do too, and know that had the implant option was not available it would have been tough on them.
Even the simple acts of cutting hair, putting on make-up, shaving or waxing hair, piercings...these all alter your God-given looks. Surgically placed implants are just taking things to the next level yeah?
My sister had them done and is thrilled with the results.

Ear piercings and nose piercings are a normal thing and people have been doing them for hundreds of years. Breast implants are a newer development. How can we compare the two?
Plus, breast implants are solely for the sake of attracting the opposite sex, no?

Yeah but make up is washed off and implants have to be surgically removed...there is a significant difference between the two...
Correct Reha. While piercings and such are adornments, removal of hair is for hygiene, the only purpose implants serve is for making your breasts appear larger/fuller than they originally are…(we are not talking about women who opt for these after breast cancer-reated surgeries)…they aren’t for breastfeeding either. Circumcision is a sunnah. (In fact if an adult lets say converts to Islam, he isn’t obligated to get this done unless he can do it himself or his wife can :D, to avoid unnecessary exposure to another adult.) Also, even eyebrow shaping has certain rulings…that we choose not to follow but the rulings are there nevertheless.

Just because it's been happening for hundreds of years, doesn't make it right. Maybe over time, piercings have become acceptable, but to some, piercing your ears, especially those of a young child (which is common in our culture) is seen by some as barbaric and wholly wrong.
Maybe over time, breast implants will become acceptable....

Could we not say the same thing about dying your hair, shaping your brows (prohibited according to Sahih Bukhari (correct me if 'm wrong), but then that's if you believe in the guidance of Hadith), wearing makeup, adorning yourself with jewellery?
Ok, let me guess...some people are going to shout "no, i do that all for myself"....so what what if a woman wanted to have breast implants...for herself?
Breast implants are a way to allure other person is different than those which are done out of necessity.
Feeling bad from having small breasts to the point of depression could be over rated.
Now if she belongs to FCPS (flat chested personalities) altogether, and also cannot get married for that, then why not? Nothing wrong with that I guess.

well..how are the 'normal' the point is not about what is normal or something that people have been doing for 100s of years..niksik had a very specific statement that many people use against any cosmetic surgery in general..let me refer to that statement and the get back to my point

altering what Allah has given you is considered un-halal. .

so breast implants are alterations, and so are piercings, so are shaping brows and waxing. My point here was that simply that statement is not going to answer the question.
do we leave kids born with cleft palette as they are, because well thats how they were and you cant alter what god has given you.
The extreme example is to make a point, and that is that blanket statement does not cover everything,...and if it does...then it covers everything...including piercings. we have to look at it and think, and my view is that its the former and not the latter.
Plus, breast implants are solely for the sake of attracting the opposite sex, no?
You may want to pose this question to a breast cancer survivor who had mastectomies, and whether the implants as part of the reconstruction were solely for the sake of attracting the opposite sex.
btw- there are rulings on this subject, that if there is severe mental stress due to it, reconstructive surgery or enhancements are completely fine, whether they are breast implants, reductions, whatever.

Yes to many points.
We also need to think about if even cancer survivors do really need implants by surgery?
It could be looked at case by case. Just implanting the idea (pun intended)in the head of a woman immediately after mastectomy to make money by these industry people or plastic surgeons should not make it right.
Many older women, unmarried or divorced or otherwise not going to marry do not need this surgery. They could just be happy with fake bras.
lets ask some older, unmarried or divorced woman who went through a mastectomy then.
and I am sure there are fatwas against 'fake' or enhancement bras as it is :)
Sure. Not all of those would agree or be thrilled with the operation.
And fake bras fatwa...we have so called fatwa for adult men directly suckling too...Guess these women will never be able to work with na-mahrams regardless if they get implants..:(
dude...they probably were not thrilled with the mastectomy either or dealing with cancer, but you have to do what you need to do to rebuild your life which goes haywire when cancer strikes and part of that is trying to get back to what you were like, because people are cruel and while it may e easy for us to sit here and say oh just do this or do that, I have seen people say cruel things about someone who had lost her hair due to chemo..thats how people are, and how strong do we want cancer patients to be? to deal with the curveball thrown at them, go through radiation, chemo, surgeries and then also be strong and deal with pity, snickering, stares afterwards..easier said than done amigo
and as far as not agreeing or thrilled, I dont think there is really much that you can get unanimous agreeement on.
when a woman under goes breast implantation surgery her breasts can be seen by many including men .....is this allowed ? If there is some disease then it's a completely different scenario but this is like a cosmetic surgery. I don't think it's even right for woman to see other woman's breasts for no valid reason.........other men looking at them is just not right.
What I have read that Allah has kept strict punishment for those women who show off their chest/breasts.
