@ TLK... the desi food there is often basi (unfortunately)...
Agree. Sometimes even they give saray huway khanay. I mean jo kharab ho chuka ho. Per hum bhi kum naheen deis honay ka saboot detay hain ja kar wapis kar kay doosra letay hain.
I also hate the smell of wicked agarbattis in desi restaurants.
LOL aur aap us main jaati hain. Mujhay to lagay kay jaisay main kisi kay marnay pay aya hoon.
Re: What I seriously hate about US based Desi restaurants
Oh boy, wait till you guys visit (or maybe already have) Jackson Heights and their 'amazing' restaurants.. Shaheen, Roti Boti, Kabab King, all of those. They are dirty, service is TERRIBLE (last time we had to sit and wait for 40 mins just to get dessert and check even though the waiter came THREE times to take the order for dessert). Chalo, it was busy so I can let that go but at Shaheen's, we were done eating and waiting and waiting and waiting for the check, the restaurant btw was near empty, the waitresses were either too busy talking or walking around but not tending to customers. The owner was standing nearby talking to some guy and he saw us and snapped his fingers at the waitress along with this glare and she quickly rushed to us.
Then the hygeine issue- once my cousin really wanted to go and try the buffet at Kabab King so we went and at the salad bar, desi uncles were HAND picking salad.. a few were 'sorting' through with fingers to find kheera, tomato, onions or jo bhi. Eeeeew. Not to mention the crowd in these restaurants (KB is better) is definitely the kind to stay away. As if the staring, winking, and all that lafangapan isn't enough, you walk out of there and find more chichoray log sitting in their cars whistling and making cat-calls. If you go without a male, be prepared to listen to cheesy lines like, 'hello.. number tou do' or 'hello.. hello.. idhar dekho zara' or ''whistle.. wah kia baat hai'...!
Here in CT, the restaurants are decent and family oriented. The service is top notch, I have to say. The 4-5 we have scattered all around all have good food (Indian and Pakistani) even though their naans do cost 3 bucks and even ordering chutney costs like 2.95. Recently we had my parents' anniv at one of the desi restaurants which is owned by my brother's roommate/friend's family and even though alot of people thought hosting events at desi places is a bad idea, we were so happy we did. Since we know them well, it was like a family thing, their entire fam was there taking care of the smallest detail and making sure everything went right. All the guests and us had a great time.
That remind me of those road side restaurants in Lahore ![]()
Re: What I seriously hate about US based Desi restaurants
Oh you will find it all there. Men standing around late at night chewing paan and spitting it out, men on charpais listening to qawalis and drinking lassi, the stares and all of that.
Re: What I seriously hate about US based Desi restaurants
^ I guess they want to give customers the "authentic" subc experience...makes the regulars feel like at home :D
I've been to roti boti (shaheen now I thinK) many times and the food is good. but last time i went, omg we were hit with a $50 bill (for 2 ppl)...but i guess our mistake for not asking the prices, cz its never been that expensive. Oh and whenever we go in the daytime there's a group of uncles in business suits, and often times they get into huge arguments w/ lots of yuelling..Once I was there with a friend who had a kid and he started crying and they made the waitress come over and tell us to shut the kid up.

Jooton say tawaza karni thi na unki.
Baba ka Dhaba in Downtown Chicago had those desi style restroom, you know where you sit on the floor , the hole in the floor kind .
Their fish is fried in the same fryer where they fry pork products.
its that skokie holiday inn where they have those pakistan day dinners and all. its the same guys..they arrange for mujras as well. Stay in the bubble..one important thing i learnt is that just becaue someone hails from pakistan does not mean I have to be a pal. I stay away.
Yep! It was a holiday Inn in Skokie!! Most of the staff was desi too.
Im sorry but that was just too funny! ![]()

- florida sucks. for all their desi stuff. i mean.. $16 for eebrow threading, that's just horrible!
off of topic, but the chinese lady opened a booth in a mall and she is charging $6 for a eye brow threading.
The funny one was when a friend of mine was in J/H and suddenly this guy in his car started following her at slow speed and kept saying, Hello.. oye beautiful, idhar dekho.. he kept on saying stupid stuff.. finally when he saw that she didn’t even glance at him and just kept walking, he said, oye baji lift to kara do.. she looked at him so angrily and he said, dekh magar pyaar se baji. such desperate guys there, i tell you.

I used to think it is halal too. Then I saw this and stopped eating there.
I did not find anything against McDonald fish fillet so I eat it.
FF at any place are halal or not will depend on if it has animal shortening as one of the ingredients or not. Then is it animal a halal animal or zabiha animal etc.
But at all the places the fryer for FF is always separate because they do not want FF to get cross contaminated with other food smells .
The BK Everywhere has the same setup for cooking , frying , grilling and roasting.
