a few years ago there was this whole change in military leadership, Kiyani rose to the top role, around the same time the independence of judiciary was in focus, as was democracy, Musharraf was sent packing. Pakistan Khappay became a new buzzword,
what has changed for good since then, what has changed for worse, what has stayed the same pathetic state as it was.
guys… and really lets not get into calling each other a supporter of PPP vs PML-N vs PML-Q vs APL vs MMA vs MQM vs Military thing here. I think we are well beyond that sort of trolling and flaming.
Just an honest assessment of the state of the state..this is not an attempt to be a told you so, or look it was better then, but just how much of what you thought was going to change has changed, and to what level.
I personally don't think there is any improvement in term of governance domestically or internationally. However, it is crystal clear number of drone attacks went sky high and so did terrorism against civilians/military, more high profile attacks against government/military.
For ordinary citizens inflation is still too tall to handle, load-shedding is tougher than summer heat. Media is still as irresponsible in many ways. Judiciary freedom was only for symbolic purposes, all the heroes are now silently sitting in corner smoking cigars.
hmmmm thanks guys, I was just not getting a good read on the players and their games now
have the JI JUI folks just disappeared, I have not seen much from that camp
Ifti seems to have run out of sou moto quota, whatever happened to the missing persons case
The guys who were booted from PPP after the famous will showed up, whats their situation now...they were at the fore front of the movement then, but now i dont hear anything.
is all that stuff just pushed back by media and people alike because the terrorism related issues are just so massive now?
Military is no more holy shyt. There actions are talk of the town … people are passing opinions on them. Something very beautiful happening. Just read yesterday ISPR statement it shows the mindset of military establishment, they are like crying for respect, and this create a powerful vacuum. Hopefully this vacuum will be filled by political parties & intellectuals.
People are understanding the gravity of situation, the war on terror definitely trying to destroy the very fabric of our society but this suppose to happen. It’s like self-healing surgery is going on not only in Army but also around every corner of nation.
Political system is getting civilized & stable. Well for my surprise nearly all the political leaders are showing maturity & respect.
Because of explosion of media, average Joe is part of thought process which in working democracy came from grassroots. It will take time, but our course must be maintained.
Regardless of all the problems last year war on terror, floods.. etc.. our exports grows over 33%, that is an achievement.
The most beautiful day of my life was when 18th amendenment passed, believe it or not. That is the greatest thing happened since the constitution.
We are still away from the/a miracle. But things have changed a lot....
See if we were in an environment in the middle of amazon desert walking around naked, with Zero out side forces concerns.. I would have said "miracle has happened we just need to see the
results."
We are up against much much friction , opposite forces.. so not easy to say how things would turn out at the end.
Simple example.... many years ago when pakistan was calm.. I borrowed/read few books to know what made pakistan tic.. of course(back then) I lost some sleep knowing that any could have to country like us.
Eventually those thing happened. :(
Now reason I say things have changed.. that every person in pakistan knows truth about pakistan more then I did back then. Which is such pain for them but at same time its such a blessing.
Back then I saw masses where they were told pakistan's real issues and they DID not understand a single word. But know they know.... really.
If we hold together for little longer things would change.. no doubt about it....
Nothing has changed other than that fact that everything is now happening under the preface of "democracy".
Amn-O-aaman situation is is even worst, prices of everyday commodities are touching skies, then forces guys were doing corruption, now politicians are doing corruption. Chief justice is taking so-moto of "Attiqa Odho caught carrying 2 'sharab' bottles" instead of taking missing persons case to some end. For average Pakistan, things have just got worst.

Musharraf was sent packing. Pakistan Khappay became a new buzzword,

I think army and ISI are working against extremism more than before. Even at the time of Musharraf, distinction was made between good and bad Taliban. This is why Saudi financing was allowed to continue in 2000's.
But today this distinction does not seem to be there. Government is trying to remove taliban apologists. This is why JUIF is so mad. They did not get their favorite ministry, religious ministry. They were so mad that they even asked their Saudi masters to write a letter against the incumbent minister. But even that conspiracy with Saudi help did not work.
So I think as far as Taliban, this government's record is more impressive than any governments before, including Musharraf's army rule.
