What has been going WRONG and what went Wrong/St Patrick's day massacre

To list a few:

  • Stupid PCB administration with stupid morons who are destroying the infrastaructure:)

  • Of course, our openers failing again.

  • middle order crumbling due to openers failure

  • Younis Khan’s early exit.

  • Body language of the Captain… (There should be an attitude; humbleness is only needed where required; not on cricket ground - learn it from Imran who wore the Tiger shirt during the toss of 92 Final)

  • Wrong and slow decisions about game plan.

Please, add!!

Re: What has been going WRONG and what went Wrong

I will still say ..PAK is a formidable ODI outfit...if you go by individuals.

However, the team does not seem to project any kind of energy. I wish I could explain it in another way. I guess I want to say ...VIBE....quick running between the wickets...dynamic fielding....happy faces...etc

Pak team has too many slow , profound looking , religion-invoking, bearded Gentlemen.....

Re: What has been going WRONG and what went Wrong

Exactly my point; however, I believe they can still show such behaviour even with religious figures of theirs...

Re: What has been going WRONG and what went Wrong

everything. There was no postive's for Pakistan in this world cup. NIL!

Everyone used to say Inzi has brought unity to the team and he should stay the captain. Well, we don't need a united team which cant even beat ireland and is the first team out of the world cup after 2 matches and 5 days into it. This team is all about Mullah's and Inzi's friends, such as Mushtaq, Rao, Kaneria, etc.

The fielding was horrible and so was Inzi's captaincy. I was hoping against hope that Pakistan look like a much improved side after the hammering they got from SA and use that as a wake up call. But none. Woolmer's expressions could tell that he was as frustrated as ever and who wouldnt be. What can a coach do when your captain is as dummy who only knows to scrath his beard or pick his nose on the field.

Inzi was a batting legend. Forget him and move on. Its time we give a chance to the youngsters. Its time to make Younis Khan captain with Malik as his assistant. For Pakistan's sake, I don't want to see Inzi or even Yousuf leading the side ever again. Inzi can continue as a batsmen if he likes, but as I've mentioned before on this site, he will never play for Pakistan unless he's the captain, which proves his stubborn self and how he dictated everything.

Why is Inzi always talking to Yousuf for advice and not Younis? Younis is the VC and he should be asking him, but I have never seen him go to Younis, he always chats with Yousuf. This once again proves that this team is all about Inzi and his buddies, and since Younis is not his greatest buddy, he's never a part of any discussion.

Also, from the looks of it and the way Woolmer packed his bags...it definetly seems as though he's had enuff of Pakistan cricket and he'll be leaving after right after the WC. I'd love to see Woolmer coaching with Younis at the helm and I'm sure given the right amount of time, we could become a world class team. the reason being, Younis is a good athelete, always wants to learn, always active, and always wanting to improve. Inzi has none of these qualities. The team has become like Inzi...Lazy, fielding is horrible, no game plans, and slow to think and react. Younis is not as gifted as Yousuf or Inzi or other past captains, but its not only your batting which wins you games, its a whole lot more than that. Greame Smith may not be as talented as Kallis or Pollock, but he's taken SA to the #1 ranking past the Aussies because he's got the determintion to be something and see how SA have improved over the last while. We need a captain who can inspire the team and not a captain who eats biryani, doesnt like to work out, wants his friends in the team at any cost, and is unwilling to listen to ppl's advice...stubborn. Inzi said he will bat at #4 before leaving for the WC, but did he? He said before the Ireland game that the batting order will change and bowling won't change, and it was the other way around. The guy cant make up his mind and doesnt have any sort of plan of what he wants to do.

So there you have it...thats my two cents...Inzi the captain was the biggest mistake to happen to Pakistan cricket, and I really hope we get rid of his horrific captaincy ASAP!

Re: What has been going WRONG and what went Wrong

  • It is clear that we lack a leader.
  • Our team selection was not the best. Why bring in Imran Nazir, Azhar Mehmood when they have not played consistently for the side in over 2-3 years.
  • We had injuries to some key players and no backups for them. Aren't we supposed to be grooming youngsters.
  • We lacked young blood.
  • No clear well defined strategy in the past 4 years. We have players batting all sorts of orders (other than our big 3). No one has been groomed into becoming a specialist batsmen in one particular batting slot. This has brought about a lack of consistency.
  • We need a genuine opening pair.

Re: What has been going WRONG and what went Wrong

I would also want to know why can't Pakistan create few replicas of Australian wickets? How hard is it given the modern technology at hand?

Re: What has been going WRONG and what went Wrong

One word, PCB

Fire all of them and we would notice a positive change in a few months.

Re: What has been going WRONG and what went Wrong

Spot on.
Miandad was the exact opposite. Like him or loathe him but Miandad was a team man always giving priority to the team's interests. How many times did Miandad step down from captaincy of his own free will ((not that he had to like after beating Australia 3-0 (Qadir took 22 wickets) and NZ 3-0 (Waqar took 29 wickets) when Imran refused to play because Hadlee did not come to Pakistan)) when Imran Khan came back into the team?

Re: What has been going WRONG and what went Wrong

Screw what went wrong... there's no point arguing over it now. Pakistan's outta the World Cup! Thanks to our incompetence we were ashamed out of West Indies by an underdog team like Ireland.

Re: What has been going WRONG and what went Wrong

Inzi's biggest failing IMO has been his unwillingness to groom youngsters for the future. Had we a dynamic captain like Imran Khan (or even Younis Khan), Anwar Ali, Jamshed Ahmed, Fawad Alam and Samiullah Niazi, they would have all played one-day or test cricket by now.

Re: What has been going WRONG and what went Wrong

so it's the end of the world now???

I think we should be asking this question NOW; it's about time... We need to find out what had been going wrong...... Let's move on but move on with a better approach and unless we find out what's wrong, our approach will remain erronous for the days to come :)

We need to be optimistic and positive...!!!

Re: What has been going WRONG and what went Wrong

We have to give credit to Pakistan for one thing.............and that is the consistency of their game...............predictably poor performance and unpredictable victories.!!!! :)

BTW.......What is the nationality of Woolmer? Can he be trusted at all?

Re: What has been going WRONG and what went Wrong

Naseem Ahsraf and all the idiots need to go, including Woolmer, Inzi as a captain, and nazir, hafeez, farhat and other openers that had their chances to prove themselves. This is so embarassing! Not too proud to be a Pakistani right now!

Re: What has been going WRONG and what went Wrong

Just for the cricket we must not stop being proud of who we are..I think.

Re: What has been going WRONG and what went Wrong

Pakistan should promote Hockey again! Too much time and money spending on cricket and too much attention to this game despite predictable performances as I said earlier. the heros give back number zero when it comes to making runs but they take hundreds of thousands of currency from the nation....................!

Re: What has been going WRONG and what went Wrong

PCB, the moment shariyar khan resigned i knew this wc campaign was gone, nasim ashraf, saleem altaf, and wasim bari are amongst teh worlds most incompetant peopl!

Re: What has been going WRONG and what went Wrong

Obituary

Ina Lillah Wa Ina Illaihai Rajiun!

Today, on St Patrick's Day 2007, Pakistan cricket died.

It was a long and painful journey. The disease was diagnosed a lot earlier, but unfortunately no attempts were made to treat it properly. Band-aid patches were used where major surgery was required. A few good days mixed with months of darkness were considered signs of improvement. The title of "most unpredictable team" was treated like a badge of honor. At last today, the veil was lifted and what we found inside was rotten to the core.

Many arm chair critics are getting ready to comment on what went wrong. Fingers will be pointed at Inzamam, and the batsmen, and the bowlers, and the coach (with his laptop) and the Cricket Board. And all of them will be justified. It was a complete team failure. No one stands tall. Not even Afridi who never even played a game in this World Cup before the team crashed out. Not Shoaib Akhtar and Asif who missed this tournament due to either drug use or fitness. Those in them who have an iota of shame, should commit collective suicide. Of all the teams, we just lost to Ireland. And we now have the ignominy of being the first team to be knocked out of this World Cup. For a team that lifted the cup 15 years ago, and considers herself to the one of the top-5 teams in the world, this is the pits. All those who are responsible for this are criminals.

I am sure if we think long and hard, we may be able to find some positives. We still have plenty of very talented youngsters. We do have a reasonable domestic structure that can give us some good players. We have people in our country who can run the affairs of cricket like they should be run, but only if we can find those people.

But right now, its dark. And black. And there are really no positives. Inzamam, Yousaf, Rana and Mushtaq Ahmad... their beards are growing longer and their ability to do their jobs has shrunk to naught. For some unfathomable reason, Younis decided this is the time to go completely out of form. Imran Tulla Nazir wanted to get out on every single ball he faced. Hafeez had no idea what he was doing in the team. It was an abject failure of our batting and our team planning and every thing in between. Afridi, Akhtar and Asif who all sat out these games for various reasons... all of you are irresponsible and personally I have no sympathy for any of you either. You let your nation down in the biggest show-case event of the game.

A few heads will roll. Woolmer will probably catch a flight straight to UK or South Africa or wherever the hell he came from. Inzi will take the flak and announce his over due retirement. Younis, Akhtar and Malik will all jostle to become the new captain. And Yousaf will continue to think that he is untouchable after the fabulous year he had in 2006. There will be promises of a full investigation.

Things will change. And things will not change at all. This is the nature of Pakistan cricket.

We will be back. We are too good and too proud to let it all slip away. Tomorrow will be a new day. This will remain a bitter memory of what could have been. No one realistically expected this team to actually win the World Cup. But no one thought we will lose so early, so poorly and with such unabandoned carelessness.

St Patrick's day massacre will not be forgotten.

But...

Life will go on.

Re: Obituary

Wonderful piece Faisal bhai. Yes, life will go on. I really thought things won't get worse than the debacle at the 2003 WC, but I guess this really was rock bottom and we can only get better from here. One thing I really hope Pakistan does is stop this "play first class cricket for ten years to get into the test team" crap. Blood some youngsters. Hell, they will be inconsistent. Who freakin' cares? We need to get back to producing entertainers like Wasim and Waqar. I hope they drop defensive policies in team selection after this horrible loss.

Re: Obituary

In our domestic structure, there might have a lot of cricket being played but it's useless for several reasons, couple of those could be:

  • Flat wickets all over the country, hence the great batsmen produced are a disastarous failure on a seaming grassy wickets.

  • Domestic Cricket has teams from 'every galli mohalla' ... There should be pakistan cricket academy recognized few teams.. from major cities of all provinces... Not more than 6-8.

PS: nice thrashing of arm chair critics by an arm chair critic :p
