Re: What foods would you take from abroad to Pakistan
you definitely get Baking powder in Pakistan … leave it here
How about good quality coffee if you have it daily .. its so hard to find a good one in pakistan
Are you going to be cooking there? I think you get most stuff in Pakistan , depending on the area that you are living in … i will write some more ingredients as i remember them …
Re: What foods would you take from abroad to Pakistan
the only food i take with me is coffee. i'd rather enjoy the local food stuff than take stuff with me. also if you're going to big cities, you can buy almost everything from there, even if you have to cook something from scratch.
oats are available like everywhere. it won't be the instant stuff like quaker oats, but everyone knows what daliya is. not sure what you need in particular for fried chicken mix, but if it's like flour and spices, again, better spices are there. heck fresh, nice spices are available even in some far off villages. vanilla essence get from there since the chances of it being slightly more halal are better. and like CB said baking powder is available everywhere. even at the corner shop
Re: What foods would you take from abroad to Pakistan
where are you going in Pakistan? All these things are easily available in Pakistan.. I have found Betty Crocker Cake mixes, kraft cream cheese, even delmonte prunes in Islamabad, Karachi so it shouldn't be a big deal.
In Islamabad I forgot the name of the store but it's in Jinnah super market (F7) has almost everything from here available!oh also best price in Super markert (F6) has large selection of western food brands.
In Karachi, there is Makro (one in Saddar I think and another one on shahhar-e Faisal.. you cna't miss anything there! I was surprised to see cinnamon toast crunch cereals tehre :-D
Re: What foods would you take from abroad to Pakistan
I wouldnt waste precious baggage weight on stuff like that. Like everyone said you can get most stuff there. If you really wanna take something, take canned jalapenos, and quesadilla wraps, and whip up some chicken quesadillas there :)
Actually, I found that in Islamabad (Best price superstore) and Kohsar MArket. Alot of diplomats live in Islamabad, and Kohsar market carries everything they need, even their fav. dog/cat food

Re: What foods would you take from abroad to Pakistan
where are going in Pakistan..??
the items you listed above are all very easily available...(I am talking of Lahore)...
you can get the Quaker oats too...:)
it’s been a while since i’ve been shopping in Pakistan, so the info might be a bit outdated :halo: but yeah those big hypermarts and stuff, like makro aur pata nahin kya kya, should carry even the flavored stuff.
Re: What foods would you take from abroad to Pakistan
If I am in some place for a month or couple of months I never brought anything, serioulsy you can find anything and everything. When we moved to india, I was a lil thingi for these:
whole wheat pasta, salba noodles, pesto, smoked samon, our fav cheeses, enchilada sauce, sumakh, some other non-desi spices, fresh herbs, fresh salad greens, nori, maple syrup, lemon yougurt, kefir etc
I found most of these things, I brought seeds for fresh herbs and salad greens, and so far I didn't need to plant those besaue I am ok with what is avaiable locally. The only thing I was dissappointed about is that some of the things you are used to may taste slightly differnet because the ones you get in pakistan are catered to the taste of ppl who live n pak. Like few ppl mentioned filter coffee in this thread, I agree with that, I miss my kind of filter copy, but I was able to get very close to that taste by experimenting.
Once you stay in some place, long enough not be a guest anymore, you start exploring the local ingredients.
Re: What foods would you take from abroad to Pakistan
Almost everything mentioned in this thread is easily available in Pak, atleast in major cities so no need to waste precious baggage allowance on that.. plus like Khumar said I'd rather enjoy local food there (nan kulchay, paye, nihari , puris) than have imported porridge :D
Re: What foods would you take from abroad to Pakistan
I've found pretty much everything in Pakistan...check out your local 'imports' store which will carry most foreign best selling brands. I've even see Mr Muscle Kitchen cleaner in Pakistan!
Re: What foods would you take from abroad to Pakistan
i wouldn't bother wasting luggage allowance on food cos most things are easily available there in the bigger towns and cities. last time we went 2 years ago, we went into a store and i was amazed that it had absolutely everything that we would normally buy here. even heinz baked beans lol
Re: What foods would you take from abroad to Pakistan
only cooked stuff (chicken burgers, frozen and canned thing fruits etc) in Pakistan might be found in different qualities here but things like baking powder, vanilla essence can easily be found here.
My mother uses to take Shan masalas from Pakistan with her whenever she goes to KSA :D
Re: What foods would you take from abroad to Pakistan
why waste baggage allowance on food...its only a month man.....relax...if its that bad take something you def need, but hey you really gna be baking alot in a month?
Re: What foods would you take from abroad to Pakistan
I’ve always managed to find everything in Pak, but then I guess a lot depends on whereabouts you’ll be living. I used to shop in the new supermarket in islamabad (the name escapes me now) which was just like sainsburys but better since small children were banned from the shop too
