Would you like to see your children adopting your drinking habit?

Mine is a drinking hobby not habbit. This hobby comes with a responsibility, if you think you are responsible enough you may join the club as well. The tab is mine for the day.

The difference between you and me is; I don't like and want mini-me s. I will let them find their own way and their place in this world. Unfortunately/fortunately (depending on the perspective), I do not agree that everyone should wear same clothes, have the same length of beard or what not.

Oh come on, aaj kal kay bachay kahan maa/baap ki suntay hain? They do what they please (okay well not all of the kids, most kids)...even if they had the most religious parents in the world...they'll still stay interested in trying drugs/alcohol out.

It all comes down to you in the end. One could have had the best upbringing in the world yet that don't mean you won't derail in your life. I've grown up in a country that has a vibrant booze culture yet I haven't let my mates from school, unior work get to me as my faith is more important to me than a pint of beer or a glass of bubbly.

Most of the people have mentioned Peer Pressure and disobidience of parents. Agreed.

I know you comment is not sarcastic, it hypocritical at best because you think there is a different set of rules for boys and for girls.

As far as I am concerned I am not a hypocrate. In good time when the girls will grow up they may do what they want to do with responsibility. This is the reason I do not indulge in anything which I have problem of my family indulging in.

I do not subscribe to the theory of "do as I say not what I do".

PS: Enough personal chit chat. Shall we get back to the topic?

Its a matter of perspective saieen. When I see people doing things and have absolutely no clue why (lot of it is related to faith issues) I find it pretty stupid as well. But as I said its a matter of perspective. The faith things makes perfect sense to some but none to some.

You are not following any religion, you are living a life made of your own rules (in other words a hedonist's life) and you want your children to do the same........so you're the one who wants his children to be mini me s.

That's true in some cases. However, I still strongly believe that it's not necessary that if someone has been brought up in an environment surrounded by alcholic beverages you are not obliged to be involved in all that too.

IMO, two factors lead teenagers to smoking; parental neglect and peer pressure.

Parents who do not educate their children about the bad (does not necessarily have to be specific -smoking) just generally they have to bring their kids up to ignore the bad in society.
Also, the pressure from the environment that’s a no brainer.

How they get access? friends, friends of friends..etc
and how the ratio I don’t know, all depends on the desi population.

Bright future? The ones I have seen 90% have no future at all.

however, I dont agree with the percentage you gave…although it was based only on the ones you have seen. It really depends on what kind of drugs you are using. I have seen many professionals in various law firms that smoke “MJ” on the weekends …shocking? yes indeed!!..and these are highly intelligent people. You’ll be surprised to see how many people smoke MJ…it’s not just among ghetto uneducated people…but among professionals, straight A college students, and the upper class…any race…any age

I know some people from back in the uni days that used to smoke right before writing an essay…because it increased their creativity level

once more thing I want to add.....some parents do stress the importance of staying "clean" and not falling into peer pressure....but in the end the kids are going to do what they want to do....and some despite their parents efforts will still do drugs or experiment with it. however, I have noticed that those kids that have had parents dissuss these issues at home end up quiting and dont get addicted to it...they experimented but in the end their morals come back to them and they grow out of that experimenting phase quickly.

For experimentation I have tried drugs when I was growing up but will stick to the subject of drinking and smoking.

Alcohol started as a taboo, that was the whole point to try it just to see why it is not allowed.

so did you find the reasoning behind that why the use of illicit drugs is forbidden in Islam, or in your language "taboo in society"?

Smoking for me started as a time killer, when I was in my teens I had friends who were smokers but the thing never appealled me, so I never picked up the habbit. when I started working (and my work takes me to the most weirdest/isolated places on the earth) I started smoking just to kill time at the age of 24. But realised after 10 years if I do not quit sooner its going to kill me, so I am a smoker no more. Still I go for sheesha once in a while but habitul smoking is out.

what about alcohol, does it give u new life?

Dude I started drinking when I was 16 years, and I am very successfull in my profession and same goes to all my drinking buddies from Pakistani origins. Our motto was and is work hard in Studies/jobs/bussiness and play even harder.

were you in Pakistan, or somewhere else when you started drinking? and was it illegal in that region where you live to drink at that age? how did you get access of it?

and also how did u get access to those drugs?

and one important question, how did your parents reacted when they found out about you being involved in all these activities?

This is very similar to the responses I get about my drinking hobby. For some reason people think that social drinkers are irresponsible, immoral, untrustworthy and dysfunctional. What a joke. I say its just bad education they are getting offline.

why do people say this (what you wrote) for drinkers then?
if you think they are all jokes, then you should be happily give to children as well

ps. if you are exception, and i also believe you are blessed otherwise it is not hard to be carried away with these things...what ya say am i right?

if it is the easiest thing then why these illicit activities are not being stopped, instead are being progressed day by day?
