Interesting thread.

I guess it'd be nice if manners and courtesy could be brought in to the picture. I don't think it'll take too much to nicely turn someone down rather than not responding at all. Sadly, such has not really been the case in our community. I'm sure it'll make things a lot simpler and easier for everyone.

Just remember that these days the parents are often in an awkward position. If their son isn't cooperating or not giving them a clear sense of what he wants, then they might not know how to respond to you.

Agreed. Some parents, specially mums can be too nice and they will not know how to refuse if their sons or daughters are playing games with them.

Please don’t get me started on this topic Sooraj. I have so many stories, perhaps one day I will write a book.

If they aren’t giving a response, they mostlikely are not interested. It won’t surprise me if six months down the road, they contact you wanting to pick up from where they left off.

It’s very inconsiderate and rude. That being said, you need to bear in mind that perhaps the son didn’t even know about his mother checking out women for him and he’s already shacked up with a gori in Canada. The mother could just embarrased since she has nothing to say given her son’s behaviour.

Someone really does need to write an anthology on rishta-stories.

Sometimes I wonder.. did she not like the way I said “Muslims have it a bit rougher in the west since everything that’s forbidden is easily available and even encouraged in some circles”? Was the guy put off by my not being able to look at him w/o turning my head and giggling otu of embarrassment? Or did they jus not think i was pretty enough.. Oh well..
