Ok look, Socrates… There are desi women who have traveled the world on their own..although it may not be widely accepted in our culture. And then I think there are also rulings in religion that say that a woman can’t go past a certain distance without a male/mahram. Don’t know the details about such rulings though. Whether or not something is “acceptable” will vary from person to person…it can be debated and argued and one has the responsibility to look at the pros and cons of a situation when making a decision. Needless to say…any decision that one takes (whether it is in accordance with cultural views/traditions or otherwise)…it WILL have consequences. You have to decide whether you can handle those consequences and if you’re prepared for them. And as frustrating as it can be, making compromises is also a part of life.
