It seems that your challenge isn’t about not being able to be yourself, it’s asserting your independence vis-a-vis your parents. You want the liberty to do things that your parents, I assume frown upon, and to your way of thinking their disapproval of your independence is perceived to be them stifling your independent expression of your true being.
Many of us disagree with our parents restrictions on us, but we learn to live with those restrictions and where necessary, make compromises. But, that my dear requires maturity and the ability to empathize with our parents perspective as well.
