The thread in life1 (about dressing gowns)…got me thining..so what exactly do you wear when someone comes over, as a guest?
I always felt that was a bit of a challenge on how to “dress” when someone is coming over, esp unexpectedly. do you change into something decent if someone unexpected drops by?
as a host, who was busy cooking and cleaning, what do you wear?
My everyday home clothes would be very similar to Kareena's wardrobe in bodyguard, and its nice break from wearing all western for school and work.
Yes me and my sister literally run all over the house like mad cats when 'certain' friends or family members ring the bell, coz you don't wanna look like tramp when they're all dressed so nicely. lol And they usually come when you're dressed like a bum.
and why is that when you invite a couple, lady is always well dressed and made up, but guy thinks that either he is salman khan or some other cheesy hero and decide to show up in jeans and sandals with no shave.
Whether I am a guest or a host, i think that dressing up nicely is a way of showing respect to the other party
But then again....when we invite friends over ( IF the plan is to stay in the house and not go out anywhere afterwards)....our "circle" knows that its going to be a casual "hanging-out" time. They usually show up in t-shirts/casual tops/pants too. In our "circle"...."dressing up" is not expected from either side if we're going to be hanging out in someone's house.
PJs (old navy pjs to be exact :D).. I only change into something decent if I am going out or if someon'e coming over- even then the guest must be very important to make me change into something nicer..
If they are desis, I usually wear desi kapray such as shalwar kameez or something along those lines. If I'm just home I'll wear a tank top/comfy shirt with pjs (or even a shalwar at times, ahem) and a dupatta (which I need to have for some reason around my neck at ALL times). I love being comfy at home.
both can answer. Actually I agreed with mirch’s post about shorts and stuff..m y husband wears shorts all day at home…i hate seeing guys in shorts at home, its just so casual.. (different if its an unexpected visit)…
waise the thing about wearing jeans and stuff…i dont know if u ever saw it, but I have seen plenty of guys who waer jeans to weddings in pak…as if jeans is dressing up.
shalwar kameez wen im with tha family at home feel uncomfortable wen i got jeans n top on infront ov my family nowimhomealone so m always in my pyjamas or a gown ..
I wear trouser kameez too! For more than 10 years, whether or not wide leg pants are in fashion, my home clothes have consisted of wide leg pants my mum made in thin suiting type material that doesn't crease very much, paired with a kameez's or in the summer even tunic tops.
Now it's just me and hubby, I usually wear a shalwar a vest top but would change quickly into the above if there were any visitors.
I rarely wear jeans or western clothes in the house, I just don't feel comfortable and like freedom of movement, plus I don't want to mess up my clothes. I change as soon as I get in.
i am mostly in my PJs and one or two favorite tees. Some days am wearing shalwar kameez. I only dress up a bit when somebody's coming over or we are going out.
Btw my dressing gown thread in L+R was more about answering the door to randoms in my dressing gown eg. postman, delivery guy etc. who turn up out of the blue.. I would never answer the door to an auntie in a bathrobe/dressing gown - even if they turned up without warning.. I’d quickly go and put ‘real’ clothes on
hehe whenever a postman or some random comes up…i make sure to either wrap a shawl over my tees or a little less than appropriate clothes or just wear a baggy sweater over
because our postman is frigging lazy..he just knocks once and doesnt even leave a ‘while you were out’ card and that annoys me the most. So there are times when I have to rush to the door incase I miss some important parcel
