I don't wear a Hijab, but I if I Did, I would tell them to go mind their own business. Do we ask people what they wear thongs for?

Alternatively, you can give them a lecture about the whole religion thingie.

Why don't you just explain why you wear it? Give your reasons. People wear if for many different reasons, so there isn't just one simple answer. Why not be honest and explain why YOU wear it?

I don’t see how being so harsh is going to help. Basically someone maybe asking out of genuine curiosity. They may not know much about Islam and you can enlighten them. Use it as an opportunity to educate someone and make the world a more tolerant place. I don’t believe that we should all live in our own boxes. You could have an affect on someone to see things in a new way and maybe inspire them.

i simply say why nuns have to wear that white scarf? they go for religious reasons and i simply smile and go you asnwered your own question...

then those who are intelligent and want more answers... will go

it also has to do with ur sense of identity. they want to be known Muslim. so yea both would suffice when explaining to someone the purpose of wearing a hijab.

But c here's the thing, hijab has sooo many differnet defintions (or rather reasons for wearing), each girl has a different reason for wearing it.

For those who say its to cover your beauty, what about the ones who wear makeup, and fashionable clothes? And instead of hair, they jus thave a colorful scarf. Some think hijab is only covering your hair, and thats' it, whereas others feel its a total lifestyle, i.e. modesty in EVERY aspect. Then there are some who simply say its what their religion asks, offering nothing in teh way of reasoning and logic..

im sure the poster is referring to the PROPER way of wearing hijab and not the way that you mentioned below.

and sara....hijab doesnt have many different definitions....there is only one definition and that is explained in the Quran and Hadith.

I don't think you should be rude to people asking about islaam, we should approach them with kindness and manners like Allah tells us to.

The number one reason why anyone would/should wear hijab is because Allah said so.

You could also say because we are supposed to dress modestly and cover our body. If you have time, or if they are christian people ask them why the Virgin Mary and nuns are always covering their head, it's not a weird new invention, it historically is a sign of modesty and religion.

sorry, but for christians it is a sign of chastity! covering hair and body means for christians NO sex life!
so to them hijaabi are somewhat hypocrites because at the same time they do have husband and children....and that's where the divide begins!
