Re: what do you say when someone asks you why you where hijab?
For those who say its to cover your beauty, what about the ones who wear makeup, and fashionable clothes? And instead of hair, they jus thave a colorful scarf. Some think hijab is only covering your hair, and thats' it, whereas others feel its a total lifestyle, i.e. modesty in EVERY aspect. Then there are some who simply say its what their religion asks, offering nothing in teh way of reasoning and logic..
For people who don't offer any logical reason for it, they aren't doing anything wrong, logic and reasoning should only serve to strengthen our faith, not to define it and be the reason we are doing it.
For example, we don't fast in Ramadan to be healthy and lose weight, we do it because Allah told us to, however when we do what Allah says we always gain benefits in this dunya as well.
Re: what do you say when someone asks you why you where hijab?
true ppl do have different reasons for wearing it. some are the right reasons and others are the wrong reasons. there is only ONE main reason for wearing it however.
Re: what do you say when someone asks you why you where hijab?
Having no sex life is something Christians made up for themselves, it's not what Jesus preached and it's not in the bible either. However, Christian women are asked to cover their heads in the bible, so who really cares what they associate with it if their association is based on falsehood !
Re: what do you say when someone asks you why you where hijab?
^ eah there is one reason, but lets say for example, you’re wearing hijab, matching eyeshadow, a shirt that barely covers ur butt and jeans and really nice, fashionable shoes. And someone asks you “y do u wear a scarf?” And you tell them “oh its to cover your beauty”. Do you think they’d believe that? The only thing shes covering is her hair, eveyrthing else abt her is stylish and trendy. I’m not trying to attack someone dressed like that, I get really annoyed when people say “oh why is she wearing a coloured scarf/makeup/nice shoes” but.. i dunno.. Like parris said, in theory its all easy and simple but the reality is , its not.. :hinna:
Re: what do you say when someone asks you why you where hijab?
no they don't they cover for same reason: to hide their beauty from the men's eyes, and that's exaclty the source of the divide, it is difficult for christians (all my family is:)) to understand that a covered have a sex life, it is very insulting for them....
i agree this comes from ignorance of the religious sources...but how many people have religious knowledge? not the majority of course.
Re: what do you say when someone asks you why you where hijab?
oh ok..i get what ur saying. yea that would be a bit hypocritical. i suppose some people just think that wearing a hijab means just that…wearing a hijab. Hijab means so much more then that.

I believe that many (but not all) things that we are required to do have a logical explanation behind it. IMO faith is already there, it is a prerequisite to EVERYTHING you do so there's no question about that.
Using your example of fasting, Allah has commanded Muslims to fast so that htey learn: self control (learning to curb worldly desires such as hte need for food, water, and sex), to appreciate what we have (that we will eventually eat, but many people may never know where/when their next meal will be).
Theres plenty of other examples I can give you regarding praying 5 times a day and womens roles and personal hygiene and gender segregation, but I hope you get my point.
Re: what do you say when someone asks you why you where hijab?
I don't think there's any reason to be rude or snippy about it if someone asks, as long as their question isn't put in an offensive or condescending manner. There's nothing wrong with asking a sincere question. It's better than allowing misconceptions to continue.
Re: what do you say when someone asks you why you where hijab?
i agree with sahar, its important when someone asks politely out of genuine curiosity that we allow our selves to give a good explanation in order to clear up the many misconceptions associated with hijab.
