What Do You Know About...

Re: What Do You Know About…

I knw about polo but never heard about Jareed and Tirkapacheen :konfused:

I heard/read a Bushakazi match could coast between 60 t0 20 thousand in cash.

Re: What Do You Know About…

I forgot to mention tent pegging too… :cb:

Heres a video of Jareed it’s a more common sport in Turkey but Pakistan was also home to many great Jareedeenaya (Jareed players)

Re: What Do You Know About…

Oh and if your wondering Tent pegging is just as old a sport and again has martial heritage…

Re: What Do You Know About…

Its almost same as Buzakashi :konfused:

Re: What Do You Know About...

Yes your right it is almost identical except where bushkazi involves two teams jostling for possesion of a sheep or goat carcass, Jareed involves two teams of javelin armed riders who throw thier javelins at each other to score before retreating to the saftey line at each end.

Both involve strenous training of man and horse... and both are very violent sports and not for the faint hearted.

Oh and the Javelins in Jareed are blunted ussually with a wooden cork at the tip, while tent pegging uses a sharp lance to pick up a marked peg from the ground.

Re: What Do You Know About…

Interesting! and in the main time its ever hardest thing to do: throwing javelins while riding horse

remind me old days when were on on biycle throw water ballons on others boys as well on girlz  :cb: and :smack: nisha girl ko kabhi lagta hi nahi tha hehehe

Re: What Do You Know About…

Yep and shooting from a galloping horse is just as awkward…

Actually there is a moment of a heartbeat, literally a split second of chance when all the horses four hooves are off the ground thats when you aim and release.

It takes ages to learn it but once you get the knack it’s easy to strike every time… at first accuracy is terrible but when you learn to release your shot at the right time… then you launch it.

Re: What Do You Know About...

i agree! i can imagin that infact i watch in TV too. in other word we can say same as fishing. Have u ever went 4 fishing?

Re: What Do You Know About…

Oh yes very simmilar indeed, I love fishing too.

I dont like rods, I would prefer to use a bow or harpoon and fish that way. :rotfl:

Besides active fishing is much more exciting, I remember in Pakistan though I was once put of fishing for life becuase I shot an arrow into a small trout and was hauling it in when a Mugger came up from the surface not that far away and I dropped the line and ran back fifty paces and watched the Mugger eat my catch! :aj:

I have always hated crocodiles since. :bummer:

Re: What Do You Know About…

I never know that we hav mugger in pak too

I tried my best to catch a fish but its very hard u’ll feel lil bit vibrate on ya finger when fish bites and that the right time to catch it. Interesting but need lot of time

Flag Ceremony at Wagha - Lahore

Wagha is the only land border open between Pakistan and India. The check post is about 30km from Lahore. A daily flag-lowering ceremony is simultaneously held on the Pakistani and Indian sides at sunset.

Nice

Re: What Do You Know About…

It was amazing experience and had wonderful time when i visit Wagha Border. I didn’t expected there will be so much crowds. Amazing thing which catch my eye sight are (1) Parade (2) Flag-lowering ceremony and (3) a white line which divide both country’s territory. Just stand never crossing line and say hi hello to the pplz whom at other side of line.

I visited once and would like to visit again :insh: and that time i’ll catch some snaps or gonna record a movie too

Shalimar Gardens

5 Kilometers east the old city are the famous Shalimar Gardens, laid out the Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan in 1642 AD. Shalimar Gardens have the privilege of being the venue of all-important State receptions.

Re: What Do You Know About…

Yeah makes you wonder how awesome it must have been four centuries ago… when it was at least three times more grander.

Another thing I love about Pakistan is Darbars and shrines of all the holy saints they are very beautifull and highly decorated, whatever your views on the matter you cannot deny that shrines are exceptionally beautifull.

Lahore Fort

A major part of the Royal Fort was constructed around 1566 by the Mughal Emperor Akbar the Great, on the remains of an old mud fort, dating back to 10th entury A.D. Every suceeeding Mughal Emperor, as well as the Sikhs and the British, added a pavilion, palace or wall to the fort. Emperor Jehangir extended the gardens and constructed the palaces in Jehangir’s Quadrangle, while Shah Jehan added Diwan-e-Khas, Moti Masjid and his sleeping Chambers. Aurangzeb built the impressive main gate. The famous Sheesh Mahal (the mirror palace) is in the northwest corner of the fort.
