my fiance calls me anjali... (strange i know!) he only does it when we are alone and no1 else to hear but its from kuch kuch hota hai... we both went through a phase of watching it every day when we were younger and would quote lines from it to each other... and it just stemmed from there... i don't call him rahul (too strange me thinks!) he's jaan to me..
i think its best for your friend to get to know his fiance, they will eventually develop banter and have in jokes and etc and perhaps he'll come up with a nickname for her that is then personal to them both, ya know? hope you get what i mean. :)

But okay not for all ocassions n everytime. Not even infront of friends n family. Just sometimes when you are in Laad Uthanay ke mood mein. or when you want him to buy you the dress or shoes you have seen in a shop, in short for buttering purpose
