Re: What Do Jinns eat & Drink?
True but other uses are also there. This is not only in arabic but in any language. When we have fallen short of expectation in a negative way we say we are only human ie we are weak, error prone, incapable, limited etc. On the other hand we use the same word in opposite sense when we fall short of positive expectation eg we say we are not animals but humans ie we could do better. So it depends whether we use a word to describe our kind or quality eg we use word lion for people to denote the quality of bravery ie he is a lion. Lion is also an animal. Wolf in sheep clothing. He is a fox. Likewise the quran does not necessarily use word jinn to tell us about another kind of creatures. If it does then question would be what is that creature and what is point of Allah telling us about it? There are so many things Allah did not tell us about so why tell us about jinns? What do we make of word jinn if not humans?
Word JINN is from root JEEM, NOON and NOON. This root has many meanings eg demon, expert, insane, stranger, foreigner, outsider, mischievous, clever, nomad, leader, someone powerful, a person with means, chief, garden, someone who rules over a domain or is master of his field of knowledge, something that over shadows something or covers it or hides it etc.
As words have various meanings, which of those best suits in a context needs to be decided on basis what makes better sense and what makes the whole thing a nonsense.
The very reason people have divided into many sections is their attitude and approach to concepts and things. We just take anything in to any direction without any proof or proving and we do not learn about concepts of proof and proving. We are happy talking nonsense rather than trying to make sense of things. In other words we do not make proper use of our brains and senses and bodies and our environment, world or universe. This is why most people are said to be worse than animals who end up in hell 7/179 etc.

The question is, if jinns are not human then what are they and what are their capabilities? Do they go to heavens and are chased away by shooting stars? Is magic really supernatural power? Are jinns supernatural creatures with supernatural powers?
What are beliefs of people here so that we could take them one by one and see if they are true or false. Please keep discussion going for sake of learning.
Thanks and all the best.
