What do/did you feed your baby at 8 months and over?

At the moment i just give her cereal for brekkie and a variety of jar food for her other 2 meals, I did give her weetabix with mashed up apples etc too, and egg yolk last week

I want to start chicken etc but jar food isnt halal so gonna make it at home

can you post recipes of what you feed your baby so I can get some inspiration

I feed her 3 times a day plus 2 feeds of bottles

Oh and how do u make khichdi… from what ive searched I understood you just boil rice and lentils together, can I add spices? obs no salt…is that right?

I have had a look at the wholesome baby food site too

She is interested in our food too when we eat but when I give her it she doesnt put it in her mouth, like carrots or roti etc, itll just drop from her hands :smack:

In other news she rolled over by herself (thought id let you guys know as I was worried in my other thread) :biggthumb:

Re: What do/did you feed your baby at 8 months and over?

Re: What do/did you feed your baby at 8 months and over?

I dont remember at 8 months but at 10 months, he started eating whatever we ate... only in a very small quanity. Like I will give him a few bites of chicken boti, matar chawal, pasta etc etc. I am not a great cook so I never cooked anything special just for him.. my mom fed him choori (paratha/desi ghee) and as much as I was against giving wheat before he turned 1, I was okay with it... he has been eating roti for almost a month now (just turned 1) and alhamdulillah all fine. We also had him taste fruits.. he loved apple, and pear and just started having grapes, plums etc.! oh I remember, I used to give him baby cereal too at least twice a day.

whats the reason for not giving masalay and such to kids? we eat very mild spices so I really dont mind giving him whatever we are eating and so far he never had any issues with it! We dont eat much sugar so he isnt used to that either.. we gave him a bite of cake on his birthday and he hated it... he enjoyed plums and matar chawal though.. I guess he doesnt have a sweet tooth but yes that's something that I was careful about... otherwise, whatever we eat, he eats! BUT his major source of nutrition is still milk!

Re: What do/did you feed your baby at 8 months and over?

around 8 months its all about introducing flavours and textures to the kids. try proper oatmeal, like quaker oats, instead of baby oatmeal which is a fine powder. cinnamon is a great spice to add to oatmeal too- just a small pinch but it adds flavour and its very good for them.

mine really loves berries and all kinds of fruit purees. khichri is great and you can also boil it in chicken stock to add nutrition and flavour. also try mashed banana and mashed avocado?

i was also boiling a whole bunch of veggies like zucchini, tomato, onion, with a bit of garlic, ginger and a tiny pinch of salt in a little bit of water. not boiling as much as cooking it, i guess. sometimes i would also add in a very small bit of oil depending on the quantity of veggies. i'd drop in spinach at the very last and let it steam and then i'd puree it all and strain it. this mixture he loooveed. you can also make soft rice and mix it in. but go slow. if she says no, give it a break and try it again in a few days.

i didn't give a whole egg and qeema until he was older though. i think chicken is lighter on their tummies.

at this point, milk is still her primary nutrition source so just introduce these things slowly and bit by bit. and good for you for giving it to her and letting her play with it! one of these days she'll put it in her mouth, you'll see! :)

Thanks for the awesome advice :)

Milk is still her primary source, here they recommend 500-600 ml a day which she does drink

We give her fruits etc, grape juice is her fave (we just squeeze the grape and not let her have the skin), mashed apple she also loves in her oatmeal. I will try avocado and berries

With regards to khichri... This is how we make it brown onion in oil add tomato garlic n ginger which has been blended, some chilli flakes, add water, salt then daal, after 10 mins or so add rice, stick it in the oven... Is this ok?

My daughter is yet to turn 8months and she eats everything that we eat..that includes beef kababs, cheese, kichri, yukhni, and pretty much everything. I make sure to give her quaker oats atleast once a day. Sometimes with chicken and yukhni and mostly with bit of sugar. Sagoodana and sooji are other options. A bit of salt and spices wont hurt..

I have a question..how many times should you feed a 8month old? My kido is exclusively breastfed so she feeds whenever she wants..i have no track of it..but how many times should i give solids?

Re: What do/did you feed your baby at 8 months and over?

three times a day, i think. breakfast, lunch and dinner. just try to fit it in around her feeds, or replace one of her feeds with a solid meal maybe.

Hehe. She does be interested in our food when we are eating :D
