I agree to post #11 and I think it was result of PTSD of some rouge element of US forces.
The fact that their commanders were contacted but it lasted two hours points to that fact that those cowboys were not under anybody’s control .

this is only speculation , it may be some form of revenge taken by rogues of nato army for the killing of 16 nato soldiers by a suicide bomber , in this bombing haqqani network was alleged to be the organisation which carried out this attack in collusion with pak i.s.i.

it may be possible these unruly sepoys overuled their commanders and carried their attack for over two hours.
