I really like okra and tried something simple with it recently. I took frozen chopped okra, fried it up. Then I fried up some thinly sliced onions, added tomatoes, salt, pepper, red pepper, haldthi, I mixed it all together and …ate it.
It was good. So i was wondering what else I could do with okra? I could add it to goshth salan. But are there any other vegetables that can be mixed with okra or is it better on its own? Anyone know any other simple okra recipes?
Try stuffed okra... I don't have a recipe but I am sure you'll find some online.
I love this recipe of okra in yogurt...
Fry mustard, asafetida, curry leaves, and okra in oil, until okra turns brown. Add salt and mix this with yogurt. Don't leave it in the fridge for too long as it becomes a think gelatinous mess...
I love okra in mutton. Cook mutton like you normally would bhunna huwa gosht with a little extra tomatoes in it. It should have very little liquid in it once its done. When done add cut, fried okra to it and cook for about 5 mins. Really yum.
I have been experimenting with Okra as well. I only used to make fried okra with tomatoes and lemon. It tastes excellent. But now i am trying other recipes. Here is a good Web site i found.
I wouldn't recommend using frozen Okra. Okra has very mild fragnance and if you are using frozen, it will make a big difference in food taste compare to using fresh Okra.
u know u can also make bharay masalay ki bhindi (masala filled okra) these r so delecious… but u need fresh okras for this… just wash them let them dry than mix salt, redpepper, blackpepper, some mustard seeds, zeera, ajwain, and lil bit sounf…mis them in one lemon and filled this stuff in okras and than put a half cup oil in frying pan and out these masala filled okras in that pan but halki anch par pakana hay…or dum par rakh do after 20 min ur okras are ready to eat…
I love okra too. To help with the water problems my Mom would dry them out first by cutting them up and putting them in the oven for awhile before cooking them. It takes away that slimy texture.
I actually looked for File(fee-lay) powder to make Gumbo....and none of these ****ty stores carry that here. So i ended up making it without it. I was trying to make Luisiana style okra.
Wow, thanks everyone for the ideas and recipes. I'm going to try some as soon as I buy fresh okra. And Jal thanks for the link. The dish called Bamya (Egyptian okra stew) sounds good. I agree that okra with lamb is the best. Somehow mixing okra with other veggies just doesn't sound right. It seems to stand alone.
